No problem! I only just realized that I've read quite a few of your works already. When the newest one popped up in a group I follow and it referred to one of your other stories I was shocked, thinking: "WAIT!!! I KNOW this author!!!" and therefore watching ensued.

That particular link was meant to go to someone else. The link you were meant to get is at this point irrelevant since its destination is no longer... existing.

Adelaide-Morain In reply to lerminator [2012-05-08 04:14:48 +0000 UTC]

I see. I mean, I was kind of surprised about the link in the first place. I AM a Germany fan (I also feel like I am very like him when at school) but I don't care for those kinds of writings very much. I have really high standards for anything that tries to be a "dating game" kind of writing.

You are not the only Hetalia super-fangirl I know, and she would have gone gaga for it. What I meant to send you was an invitation to a party which is no longer happening since I did not foresee myself being jobless while planning it 4 months ago, and I doubt $1K is going to fall in my lap between now and Saturday, so it is pointless.

Adelaide-Morain In reply to lerminator [2012-05-09 20:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow... you were planning something huge. I'm both disappointed and relieved.

I am sorry to hear you're out of a job. My mom is in the same boat.

I only fall into being a fan of Hetalia because I get into things enough to care about how they work theoretically and the like. Unlike most fangirls though, I don't like a lot of what happens due to fandom. I reject anything that does not make sense in canon. I'm very picky and don't really like to be put on the same level as most other Hetalia fangirls (because they support yaoi-rific pairings and don't bother to keep characters IN-character).

lerminator In reply to Adelaide-Morain [2012-05-10 00:34:29 +0000 UTC]

Fenni has spent the past three months trying to teach me words like "canon", "shoujo", and other fangirl-speak. It don't make a lick of sense to me. And what do you mean by "both disappointed and relieved"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Adelaide-Morain In reply to lerminator [2012-05-12 01:05:05 +0000 UTC]

You don't know that terminology? I only picked it up because they always refer to concepts that don't have a word in English. When I say "canon" that just means "from the original story" and not based on the fandom stuff.

I am both disappointed and relieved because while something big like that sounds exciting, the fact that you were planning to spend so much money and that it would surely require a lot of organization would have worried me tremendously. So I'm glad you're not putting the pressure on yourself to plan something so big, but I'm sad for you that something you were excited about is not going to happen.

I'm immune to pressure. It just doesn't get to me. There's a reason I wear a Saint Christopher necklace; I can carry the weight of the Earth on my back if I have to.

Sure! I wasn't expecting to fav any from the huge amount of fics for the sunset contest, but yours was really vivid because nobody writes about this section in history. It was very realistic. I also saved it in case I ever need to incorporate this part of WWII in my own writings. Your work would be a great reference!

It's true. Plus I always like to hear more about England's role in WWII. For most of the canon series he's just playing the villain for the axis or the foil for America and France's shenanigans.

Ikr I mean don't get me wrong England didn't really gain anything from the war in the end(unlike America and Russia), but, we did do a lot and a lot happened to us.

Adelaide-Morain In reply to APH-Koneko [2012-05-08 04:25:28 +0000 UTC]

I'd put England at the center of the entire war for the Allies personally. England and France were there from the beginning, but when France was taken out of commission, everything fell on England's shoulders to keep Fascism from taking over the world. Americans truly have a hero complex in that we always show up at the very last (heroic) second (though honestly I jest, knowing all of the REAL reasons we waited so long).

I'd love to learn more about what life was like in Britain during WWII since there seems to be very little coverage. Do you know of any good novels or films?

APH-Koneko In reply to Adelaide-Morain [2012-05-09 20:10:13 +0000 UTC]

I completely agree with you(and not just because I'm English XD) There was a point in the war where it was just the Germans and the English, and where the Germans had been preparing for months, we hadn't so we just had to use what little we had before we could get more stuff

...hmm there are these books I read in yr6 called Carries War and Railway Children(I think they're movies too :L) but they're about children who were evacuated to the country side from the cities because of the bombs. I've learnt everything from school since I live in England so we learn a lot of English history and I assume it's the same in America but with American history.

Adelaide-Morain In reply to APH-Koneko [2012-05-23 05:16:56 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely! I know we Americans really took our time helping you guys out. Problem is I don't know much more than the North African battles between the British and the Germans. I know there was also a lot of bombing by Germans on British cities... but I don't have any idea if there were other major fronts of the war until D-Day.

I know I don't have a handle on English history besides what overlaps with American history (that is the colonial era, the American Revolution, and the World Wars mainly). Despite being an American... I think my American history is the most rusty just because it has never seemed as interesting to me as other countries/civilization's histories. But then again, I've had this stuff beat into my head over and over and I love history in general... so I probably remember more than I give myself credit for. One major thing that bothers me though is that American history classes just don't cover much of the 20th century. I've had two major years dedicated to American history and one stopped at the Civil War of 1861 and the other trailed off right around WWI and WWII (This happened because we were running out of time and my older teacher didn't quite realize that what was recent history to him wasn't for us at all).

So yeah, most of the stuff I've learned has come from my own research and asking questions of professors and other specialists. It's fun though! XD

APH-Koneko In reply to Adelaide-Morain [2012-05-23 18:56:54 +0000 UTC]

Yea, though once America was involved you guys didn't waste any time in giving out money and supplies to the rest of the Allies, which meant Britain was in debt to America for years after the war.
I don't really know all that much about American history myself(again, aside from where it overlaps with Britain). Though we did do some work about American history last year, but we mainly covered The Cold War and the 60s. Since we're doing some modern history at the moment, we've also looked at things like Cambodia and Americas "war against Communism."
I have to admit, I've enjoyed history a lot more recently because we've stopped looking at just British history and started looking at other countries too.
Btw, out of curiosity, do you just have one history class for everything or do you have like a separate class for American history and then there's a class for world history? ^.^

Adelaide-Morain In reply to APH-Koneko [2012-06-04 03:27:38 +0000 UTC]

I've always been taught that we were selling the Allies a lot of supplies even before our involvement (but perhaps that was primarily in WWI). We tended to support without compromising out neutrality... which never went unnoticed by the Central or Axis powers.

That's an interesting time period to focus on. It's actually one that gets skipped over fairly frequently in our history classes because of it being so current for us. There are a lot of people who are surprised that students are now young enough that we weren't ever AROUND when there was a Berlin Wall or a USSR.

Well, throughout public school we've actually had three types of history classes that we would cycle through: World, National, and State history. Being from Texas, we'd spend a year on that, then a year on US history and then a year on world history and then repeat. Now that I'm in college, we don't have Texas history anymore and the world history has been split into lots of subcategories (which is for the better seeing as how the World is a heck of a lot larger than the US and it was always too much material to cover in a year).

APH-Koneko In reply to Adelaide-Morain [2012-07-03 16:29:25 +0000 UTC]

I guessed that that point in history would get skipped over in America, just like in other countries, they don't teach the really bad parts of their history. ...either we never did anything massively terrible/I don't know about it or we just don't care, because we seem to cover a lot of things in history that make Britain look really bad.

It's all just mushed into one for us XD We're too small to have things like state/local history. Though we did do a bit of local history when I was younger, but I think that's just because the city I live in has a lot of historic thing to do with the Romans and things like that XD

Sorry for taking so long to reply btw school has just been ...but since it's nearly the end of the school year everything's just getting more laid back so I actually have time now XD

Adelaide-Morain In reply to APH-Koneko [2012-07-14 18:34:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh! You have Roman stuff in your area!? I'm so jealous! I just got back from a trip to Italy and I kept walking about towns thinking... "this apartment building here is older than my entire country..."

It was really weird. We don't have ancient artifacts in America. That's probably why we have so many WWII, WWI, Civil War and American Revolution fanatics. Besides those wars and the cowboy vs indian skirmishes, we don't have much exciting history.

I understand about being busy. I haven't been online much at all this summer since I'm working full time. I have fallen so behind on all of my accounts!

APH-Koneko In reply to Adelaide-Morain [2012-07-18 19:15:58 +0000 UTC]

Gahhh I'm jealous, you went to Italy. I'd love to go there, the only countries I've been to are France and(after October this year) Spain.

I guess it's because of 'age' difference, I know about the native Americans, not sure how much was left by them though :L but Americas history doesn't have as much written about it because for a long time it was unknown to the world(or something like that, the further back you go, the less I know about American history). In England there are loads of castles and stuff and then there's stonehenge....yea not sure what that does XD
I have to admit though, I love the Cathedral where I live, it's Norman I think :L

Adelaide-Morain In reply to APH-Koneko [2012-09-11 00:06:56 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for not replying in SOOOO LOOONG.

I definitely love my trip. But you do have me trumped so far since I haven't been to France or Spain. I'm working on studying abroad in Turkey next semester though, so that will be awesome (whenever I can get all the paperwork through...).

The Native Americans left virtually no trace. They were largely nomadic and were much more considerate of nature than the European colonist who have now taken over. So... there's ONE village of Native Americans in New Mexico that I've visited and I think some cave dwellings somewhere... but everything else pretty much doesn't exist. We still have some Native Americans living on reservations (by choice, mind you) that we don't get to see. But yeah, nothing else. Though we definitely have the natural wonders going for us.... Honestly, I'd take a Norman Cathedral.
