I love how you gave Cadance the necklace Prismia gave her. Gives it that feel that this is soon after her ascension, and Celestia just brought her to Canterlot.

She is. Princess Cadence was an orphan Pegasus as a filly. She gained her cutie mark and became an alicorns. Celestia found out she was an orphan and adopted her as a niece.

My headcanon is that Cadance is mortal and ages similarly to non-alicorn ponies. Cadance's birth probably made headlines for miles around: "FIRST ALICORN BIRTH IN LIVING MEMORY!" Of course, Celestia got word of this, and made a personal visit. Her mother, due to complications, had died in childbirth (being a rural town, help didn't quite reach in time), and her father was grief-stricken, but adamant that he would try his darnedest to give her a normal childhood, despite her status as (future) Princess. Time went on, and because most of the other kids were either cruel little (expletive)s or sucking up to her because of her alicorn-ness, Cadance didn't quite have the normal childhood her father had hoped. One long, hard look in the mirror later, he decided to write a letter to Princess Celestia...
