Ponytails, ponytails, EVERYWHERE!!! XD (credit for the idea goes to , indirectly, from a conversation we had about giving skekSil a ponytail - I got carried away with the rest of the designs after that XD) Also skekSo apparently crimps his hair - because I thought it made him look more "kingly", k?
And soooo many smiles, except stern skekVar, and mad Mal XD They look so animuuuuuuuuu XD
These are some designs I was playing around with for a younger skeksis during the "golden-age" of their era (in my headcanon, this is about exactly halfway between the start of their reign and the end, so about 500 trine in).
Specificaly they are some drawings for the first chapter of my new upcoming TDC fanfic "Fade", which will be focusing on the turning point in the skeksis empire and their downfall. Don't be deceived by the happy/silly first chapter, this thing is going to get dark - this is time of major political and moral upheaval
I think if I have the time, I may at a later date, go over this picture in Artweaver and enhance the lines and add colour. And maybe change the designs a bit.
Credit to for the idea of drunken Lach (thank you, now my headcanon of him during this time period is of a happy drunkard who likes cuddles XD)
*oh yeah, and that gelfling is Mossi, an OC.

I actually love the concept for this sort of "inverse evolution of clothes" that I will -if it's okay with you- want to try making some designs for the AU I'm managing where the skeksis would indeed wear something of the sort at their mid-age (yes, smewhat beteen his 500-600 trines, during the Golden era of their ruledom)

I can't even describe how MUCH I love them here. THOSE self-satisfied faces! XD Those overconfident grins and stern scowl from Var, and Loathing on Mal (most skeksis would scowl if a drunken Lach would hug them...sans the Emperor, though

Of course it’s okay if you want to try making designs with a similar influence! I don't even know where the idea originally came from, I guess I should have looked into fashion that existeded before the 16th century, but when I started looking into 18th century men’s fashion, I got carried away, it was all so beautiful

Pffft XD The Emperor might be a bit embarrassed if Lach hugged him in scenario though XD Without giving away too much of the plot to the first chapter, skekSo is hosting a big celebration in which gelflings from every clan are invited, including the All-Maudra/Queen herself. Lach is being rather embarrassing here, and honestly needs to be taken away as soon as possible before he embarrasses all of skeksis-kind! XD
UNICORN HAIR! XD skekSo just looks so kind and benevolent here XD I guess it makes for better contrast later on… perhaps I can draw a bunch of skeksis like this for every chapter, that would be neat, see the change over time visually then.

Eeeee, yes in this ‘verse, at this point in time, skekSo is actually quite a genuine ruler (though maybe a bit overcontrolling at times), so his benevolent face does match his benevolent rule, at least for now.

Mossi was a character inspired from recently reading one of the entries to the TDC writing competition, I forget the name though. She’s a fairly new character, but with a rather silly/sweet backstory. I don’t know if I can fit it into the first chapter though, it might need to be reserved for later so that the chapter doesn’t get too long.
I can’t wait to finish the first chapter, it’s already in draft form

Heehee, yes, my young Sil had a very good singing voice (which he would later lose, much to his dismay), and would help skekSo lead the celebrations the skeksis empire used to hold. Makes sense, I have SkekSil still able to sing but doesn't like to admit that he can, although he has been caught on the odd occasion singing to his younglings, or humming. And he plays the piano ( I just had this weird vision of Skeksil playing the piano and it wouldn't go away) I should try and draw that one day...

At least hugging Tah doesn't carry that risk. Tah wouldn't bite or claw at Lach...or he avoids trying to do that. Tah's too cowardly about how it could bite him in the tail later. Too bad Mal doesn't care much for the future, just the present and how he can MAKE THIS STUPID HUG END!!

You're the second person to mention an influence in french-revolution styled robes, hmm, it was completely unintentional XD I merely looked up 18th century fashion, and stared with awe at all the awesome decorative waistcoats ands coats they wore back then, and allowed them to influence my skeksis robe designs for this time period XD
Aww, but Var would be an anti-glompage skek here XD The first chapter takes place during a huge celebration, skekVar is in charge of policing it to make sure no one does anything they shouldn't (like drunk Lach running rampantly through the crowds, for example XD).
