Description Lords Khran and G'Uhageid having a scimitar fight. Kind of a variation to the digipainting I scribbled last summer. But I wanted full-body shots now.

The Curse of Rha-kan'Ocka belongs to me.

I wonder, who started the fight? And who won?

Your hairball, massively muscled elves are fantastic!

Those scimitars look like they're about to break, too . . . Oooh~! Hairy-wrestling~!

This is really cool!I love the poses and who the hair and bodies were drawn! You could probably draw Predators(or Yautja) pretty easily!!

I wonder how the guy who is jumping keeps his hair from being cut...lol

Eeh... I'm not a big fan of the original predator movies and haven't even seen the new installments. So I'm not sure whether those'll ever lurk into my gallery.

Maybe Khran does get his hair cut. He'd certainly be in need of some barber services. XD

Thanks.

This must be one of the most detailed works you've done so far. Or, at least that's what I first thought when seeing this. My comments must be very dull, because I've probably praised you already with so many adjectives I can't make any new ones, which indicates I'm beginning to sound like an old cracked vinyl record. Let's try: rento, lupsakka, siivo... hahaha... you know I love it.

A question: judging by the course of Guarh's weapon, I'm wondering if you can use it likewise as a scimitar and a scythe? I mean, is it sharp from both edges? I never thought about that, but it's rather clever.

I find it also funny that Khran's hair is so long he could probably use it as a blanket if he slept knees up to his chest.

Still in love with Guarh's long white hair.

My eyes bawl at all of those amazing details! They look like they take an eternity to do, yet you do them so fast, and all of the details are so clean. It's impossible to find any flaws in your artwork

The poses... the details.... wow! I love all the tattos, and the hair, and the details on the blades. The only thing is... the angle of Krhan's arm (the one that seems to be summoning a spell or something?) seems akward.

zorm In reply to snapesgirl34 [2007-02-05 02:05:20 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I'll re-check the arm before I'll start coloring it. Overall the poses are supposed to be a bit on the 'awkward' side, as it's in the middle of action and they're constantly seeking to gain balance and so on.

WOOOO! ARM HAIR!... I think I've told you this before, but you're arm-hair drawing skills kick ass and I wish I had them. Or a way to steal them from you using nine gallons of mustard and a pickled herring.

In the case of Khran's body hair, one might study gorillas or random mutant hairmonsters of choice and tone it a teensy bit down from there.
I'm starting to wonder whether he needs shirts at all, since he practically comes with a fur coat of his own.

The comment on bishie-boys makes me want to stand in a corner like a pre-schooler...

Dayum, that is a lot of detail! I could spend hours going over them! I really want to see how you color this and the process you do it by... how many layers do you usually use, anyways?

Though, one thing that confuses me are the speed lines by the blond character's weapon. They suggest that he is moving it back, and it looks kind of hard to do that...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to MiraneCheska [2007-02-05 02:42:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, sorry about that, but pretty boys just aren't my thing.

I hear many artists use 50+ layers for works of varying complexity, but I usually have only 5-10 depending on the picture. A b/w work such as this normally has one white layer for the base, one for the background, one layer per character for the rudimentary lines, and then 1-3 detail layers on top of them. Coloring's pretty much the same, and I tend to merge various temporary shading layers as the pic progresses. I don't know, I just find it easier that way.

I checked out the trajectory of Guarh's (that's the lighter-haired fellow; he's not blonde as such, but just gone white-haired due to age ) scimitar with the aid of mirror and a long stick quite a few times in the course of sketching, so it should be 'about right'. He's moving it back indeed, and it's supposed to be a rather heavy/extreme movement, and at the same time he's attempting to gain better balance. So overall the awkwardness is purposeful. But I'll re-check the thing before I start coloring it, in case it could be improved.

As always, the amount of detail in your work astounds me. I love the little ship tattoo on G'Uhageid's heel!

(I love your ugly elves too. They're wonderful)

This looks absolutely amazing. The poses, the atmosphere... My only comment to this would be the ponytail, it somehow doesn't fit completely into the picture. Must be because it's the part that's detailed the less?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to konijnemans [2007-01-21 17:33:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.

Hmm, would it help if I went back and added some more strands to the ponytail? I left it less textured as it's completely white. When I look at it now, I also notice that some of the lines are a bit wobbly there (Smooth curvy lines are darn difficult for me. My brain thinks in spiked angles.); my eyes must've been pretty tired when I upped the piece. x|

zorm In reply to konijnemans [2007-01-21 19:32:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it might be. White reflects more light than black, and it'll have highlights from Khran's spellwork and whatever external light sources there are.

MishiDraws [2007-01-19 23:43:07 +0000 UTC]

It's kinda funny to to see Krhan jumping like that, given that you always draw him so solidly that sometimes it seems impossible for him to move at all, like a boulder suddenly deciding to animate itself.

Mad scary, mind you.

Your attention to detail is amazing. I don't think I mentioned that before, but I should.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to MishiDraws [2007-01-21 17:38:10 +0000 UTC]

Oh, Khran's very flexible. Not as much as Guarh, but can make cartwheels, splits, and somersaults in the air easily. Alright, he weighs more than 300kg, but it doesn't need to make complete sense since this is partly a parody universe, and the elves are partially magical beings in their very essence. Those blades would in the real world be totally impractical too, but I think I explained it in the story somewhere that Rha-kan'Ockian metals reach an optimal friction resistance and whatnot in some utterly ridiculous shapes.

A boulder coming to life is a good description of Khran, though. XD Could use that somewhere.

Thanks!

Well, that's why I've spent long times making faces in front of the mirror. XD I screencapped LOTR orcs at some point to see whether I could ref their teeth, but they weren't the right shape either. Now after a galore of random monster toons and comics I've gotten them a bit better.

Damn, that's some mad looking hair. Did you leave out the pupils of Khran's eyes by acident? I like the braids on Khran, they stand out without looking out of place. Great movement.

Couldn't agree more with the bishibois comment, it's one of the reasons I like your stuff some much. It's different from most of the stuff I've seen so far.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to ToniPendragon [2007-01-19 21:40:50 +0000 UTC]

No, when Khran's doing magic, his pupils become obscured by a reddish or greenish glow, depending on the spell. When I color this, it'll show up better.

Thanks.

Oh yeah, the hair's purposefully mad. XD The stuff on top of their heads is probably the only 'nice' feature in these slightly prettier cousins of orcs, but it compensates by either being completely unmanageable or growing in crazy amounts elsewhere too. The general purpose is to make parody of the 'elves are shiny and graceful' and the 'all ugly is always evil' -attitude in common fantasy. Of course, in the Finnish mythology, wherefrom I derive a lot of my ideas, elves are hardly ever beautiful.

I really love drawing hair, too. Which you probably have also noticed.
