Description
H.P. Lovecraft made two sketches of Cthulhu for correspondents. I used these sketches as the basis for this sculpture. Original is made from Super Sculpy and I've made copies with resin available. They are painted black/green with gold highlights. They are 7 3/4 inches tall.Copies of this sculpture are available for $65Β plus shipping.Β Contact me at zombiequadrille@hotmail.com for details.

I believe you have captured the Cthulhu statuette the way Lovecraft envisioned it. A look at Lovecraft's drawing (Selected Letters) depicts him as having more than two eyes - almost spiderlike. Good catch on this detail.

Lovecraft's sketches were of Cthulhu itself, or of the sculpture that is described of Cthulhu in the first part of The Call of Cthulhu?
Either way it looks amazing.

Since he's sitting on the inscribed rectangular pedestal I imagine HPL's picturesΒ were intended to relate how the idol looked.Β

odd that there so very little sculptures/drawing from the original image done by Lovecraft.....
and those based off it are often to lean and "modern".
the description says he's a pudgy 'little' thing... and that the tentacles are more cilia than cephalapoid tentacles....
Too bad Lovecraft never took an art class...it would be very interesting to see what he imagined....

Yes. I've had people say I didn't have a clue as to what Cthulhu should look like; as if he's supposed to have a superhero body with claws, scales, and tentacles. From Lovecraft's words we can pretty much say that wasn't his idea;
'Flabby Claws', 'bloated corpulence', gelatinous green immensity'.

Got my Lovecraft'sΒ Cthulhu statue today. Quite simply, it's amazing. The detail and work that went into creating it can't be put into words. When I opened the package and unwrapped itΒ I felt an anxiety I hadn't had for a long time. Thanks Joe. You are the best! Also really enjoyed the documentation came with it.

Thanks, Mike. The anxiety will only increase when a certain number of statues have gone out creating a 'critical mass' of some kind, one that will force the stars into allignment.

These are fantastic! Faithful to the original drawings and you've really made Cthulhu look properly inhuman with the worm-like tentacles.

Thank you. I've had some say that the tentacles looked like vacuum cleaner hoses. Can't reall argue with that, but I was going for the 'worm' look.

I was suprised to find TWO sketches by HPL. I find the one posted all the time and the second seems to be gone from the web now. The original poster told who HPL had sent it to and I didn't write it down at the time. Wish I had.
