I really hate these who is better than the other arguments, first of all why would you want MC or Samus to kill each other? They would be more of a asset to each other, also their abilities and weapons may be different but equipment is useless in untrained hands, they are only as good as the person who uses them, as are their abilities.

The latter statement doesn't mean much to these two.

Having around 30+ years experience and training each?

chief wins. the internet is full of Nintendo wankers and halo haters, so this fact is constantly overlooked.

#1: plasma pistol= worst gun in game=gun that neutralizes all energy in target. considering samus has to rely on her suit to make her toast, this could be a major pain in the ass.

#2: spartan laser drills whole through samus. 'nuff said.

#3: the plasma technology, held so highly by rabid metroid fans to be invincible, is standard ammunition in a solid majority of halo weapons.

#4: the halo games do involve a great deal of strategic thinking on legendary difficulty. mc isn't the idiot most metroid supporters believe him to be.

#5: chiefs visor allows for more visibility than samus'. see for yourself; and if you don't agree, i'll slap you silly.

#6: chief looks cooler.

Nice image. Love the concept, but seriously, Chief would kick Samus's ass.

Master Chief has spent HIS ENTIRE LIFE (From about age 6) in the military. He trained his whole life to be a Spartan.

He and Samus would, however, be matched when it comes to technological advancements and weaponry.

Samus, however, doesn't have a shield, that I recall.

But I liek the image and concept. very nice.

The amount of games doesn't make a difference here. You don't choose who wins between Wolverine and The INcredible Hulk by comparing their creation dates. You judge the fight based on what they can do.

Master Chief being limited by his brain doesn't matter, cause Samus ALSO has a brain that she has to use and rely upon.

Master chief is a problem solver who just kicks major ass with whatever weapon he can get ahold of. Samus relies solely on her suit while Master chief can rely not only on his augmentations and the Mjolnir armor, but his training growing up, and he can use any weapon on the field. Even enemy weapons. The "Spartan" training regimen mirrors that of true Spartan training. They start training from childhood. Master Chief doesn't know fear. He was brought up to not know fear, to face any obstacle, no matter how great. And to him, Winning is EVERYTHING. Like Spartans of ancient Greece, All he knows is how to fight, how to kill without mercy.

Samus..I've seen Samus scared. Can't say the same for the Chief.

I will admit that I do like MEtroid, though. SO this isn't a diss on Samus, I'm just bein' realistic.

darthlink777 In reply to tanekxavier [2010-12-14 17:38:55 +0000 UTC]

to make an argument for Samus 3 years later: She has far superior firepower than MC, she can take enemy weapons and equipment and use them to augment her power suit. And without her suit, Samus is still incredibly agile and has had training with the Chozo from when she was only 3, as well as had her body and mind enhanced by their genetics. But the main reason she would beat MC is because her firepower and defense abilities outstrip his (and the Covenant's) weapons and shields by decades. Master Chief dies from one, maybe two rockets, while Samus can take a barrage of missiles, and still have plenty of shielding left. And if worse comes to worse, she can use her grapple beam to latch on to enemies and absorb their energy to power her shields. And when it comes to fighting and killing without mercy and facing enormous odds, Samus has confronted and destroyed entire planets worth of Space Pirates and Metroids.

But don't get me wrong; i think Master Chief is a pretty awesome guy and i am a huge fan of the Halo games, but he wouldn't stand a chance against Samus.

Xerkxes In reply to tanekxavier [2007-10-26 03:30:05 +0000 UTC]

OH, she has a shield all right, as described in metroid prime.
you know those energy tanks? guess what the power?
her shielding is Much stonger. albiet it doesn't recharge but it's durability more than makes up for it. I mean you have to wail on her for a minute for her shields to get critical, his less than 5 seconds even with weak weapons.

you could also say the Hazard Shield counts too as it does reduce damage.

Samus has also spent her lifetime training since age 3 on Zebes with the Chozo (we know by age 14 she could make 30 foot jumps without aid of her powersuit), some time later she joined the military for training, left, became a bounty hunter, then got hired for Metroid (or Zero mission). THEN she started getting all her armor power-ups.
MC would would probably defeat Samus in person to person combat. and fair chances to both if they were wearing evenned out armor.
But Samus's Varia suit outclasses the Mjolnir Mark VI in most aspects(epecially the ability to carry more than two/3 weapons at a time)

IN metroid. you have to take advantage of the terrain to gain access to knew area's by using Samus' abilities and the postion of the walls, platforms, enemies, ect. last I checked that's being resourcfull, metroid isn't like Halo. which is basiclly a run and gun while ducking for cover a lot of the time. Samus is "I have to jump over/under/around it's attack, rebound off that wall, hit with a missile to reveal it's sensitive spot, while not falling into the lava/acid" in game, last I check that's skill. she's applying the abilities for her advantage, they don't do the work for her.

weaponry. not really. he can't store 255 (or 51 super missiles) homing missiles that can be combined with current beam weaponry to make more effective attacks (some might say Samus could win with the Wavebuster even if he was dual wielding scarab guns)
I mean in metroid prime 2 she could create a black hole.

the screw attack and power bombs almost rcompletely rule out melee attacks.

the only time I can recall Samus being fearfull is of the SA-X. and it wasn't "i'm shaking" fear, it was the fact she knew tthat it was something out of her league.
considering it the SA-X was Samus at full potential while she wasn't. Samus knew what the potential of the SA-X was, because the SA-X is a heartless clone of herself. eve at the end of the game Samus isn't at fulll potential and she takes down the SA-X, who had grown stronger.
Imagine John without in the Mjolnir mark 4 with no Cortna. (which I believe had no energy shielding if I'm rmeering my armor's well) armed with one of the crappier halo weapons, and you had to fight a clone of himself with the Mjolnir mark VI and it's got overshield that also has now seemingly become immune to low and mediorcer attacks, grenades up the wahzoo, and two of the most effective weapons in halo. he might not be afriad, but out classes.

my opinion MC would probably win in a completely non armored fight. it's like a 60/40 his favor. why? simply he's older, more experienced. and yes. more used to fighting without abilities that make him faster than a Banshii or able to fly while bing invaunrable to medium level attacks or lower.
that and we are not quite sure on how effective Samus outside her suit. the only thing we have to go on is Zero mission and Brawl (which doesn't count for the most part unless you consider it a representation of the characters abilities.)

in armor battle without cortana I'd say an unfair 80-90/20-10. why? "out of this world" crazy weapons, amazing shielding strengh for a mobile armor suit, and abilities that seem like they were stolen from god's stash. as expiernced as he is. she has things he would never haved guessed, even with super reflexes.
like rapidly fireing Human sized energy bolts at a decent rate of about4-5 shots per second, that freeze enemies on contact and travels though physical terrain without slowing down or loosing power mixed in with Plasma for extra punch. being able to run at super sonic speeds, being invaunrable to convential weaponry while summersaulting in the air (infintatly because of the space jump), ect.

MC: higher durability and strengh with many years of experience on his shoulders.
Samus: the faster more agile woman with higher intelligence, a lot of expearince (but probably about 15-20), who's had argueably better training from advanced beings.

tanekxavier In reply to Xerkxes [2007-10-26 04:00:20 +0000 UTC]

Okay. I agree with a lot of that..but..advanced beings? And the Covenant aren't advanced how?

Another thing that kinda confuses me is that Master chief was augmented so he could handle the reflex action of his suit without being turned into a heaping pile of mush. He's supposed to be stronger, and FASTER than any normal marine..yet in every Halo game, He runs just as slow as the rest of the marines, which makes abso-floggin-lutely NO sense whatsoever.

IF they were to, say, beef up his speed considerably (Enhance it to Unreal Tournament standards), he might stand more of a chance against Samus.

I go by, really, not just the games, but the books. And the books say he's supposed to be pretty damn fast (And the books were approved by Bungie, go figure).

IT wouldn't help much, but it'd give him more of a fighting chance. Besides, I doubt the two would ever realistically fight one another.

Master Chief fights off the Flood, an obvious threat to all living things everywhere, and MEtroid..well.>She fights space pirates and, of course, Metroids (I think, I haven't really followed the Metroid story. I just recently bought Metroid Prime for Gamecube and I gotta tell ya, the controls are shit...=\ ) To be honest, I think they'd be fighting together, not against each other.

But yes, Samus would probably win in a no-holds barred fight. Of course, you also gotta consider the time differences.

Now, this is going on the premise of what I've seen so far. I dunno exactly what the timelines are for either of them..I think Master Chief's Timeline stars somewhere around 2450. And judging by the technology in the metroid games, Samus timeline is much much farther ahead than that.

Master chief, realistically, would already be long-dead by the time Samus was born. And, effectively, Mjolnir armor would have had time to advance radically by that time.

As for the Cortana bit... Master Chief merely follows her guidance. She says "An explosion of the right proportion should detonate the reactor...Why, what do you have in mind?" Master Chief tosses a grenade up and down. (Cortana)"I'm coming with you...." Cortana may be the computer brain behind his missions, but ultimately everything is up to him to get done in any way possible. He's just as innovative as Samus.

And to think, all he is is a Petty Officer. (He's the top rank as far as Petty Officer's go. Master Chief: Petty Officer. Pretty fucked up ranking for having saved the universe a time or two from total destruction....=\ )

oh the Cov are advanced alright. but the space pirates from game to game make technological and biological jumps (and stealing technology). inventting new types of armor's weapons, troops, ect. a space pirate could probably best an Elite, but from what I've seen the Elites outnumber the pirates.

another thing about halo is the appearent "strengh", he can flip a tank, but when he melee's a Grunt why doesn't it go Flying? and wouldn't he be able to jump higher than he does in game if he could move that much wieght?.
when I debate against MC I take facts from everything, not just the games.

you take your unreal tournimate speed.. I'll take my metroid 2D running speed, hehe...

they would be fighting together, but most people like to compare them because they are simular characters on opposing systems. "which is better" kind of deal.

problem with the time therory, other than her two accidentlly created dopplegangers, who were both eliminated by Samus, Samus is the only one with this kind of equipment, and it is the best there is out there. the Chozo have disapeared and no one can figure out how Samus' suit works. what Master chief has now is seemingly better than what the galatic federation currently have. if I was going to say any sort of advancement, I'd say the max upgrade I can see is Master chief gaining an armor about as Capable as Sylux from metroid prime hunters (good thing though, Sylux is probably considered one of the best. but then again Samus was missing a crap load of her usual stuff to make it fair) as that's the best armor the militaray of the time can come up with.
in the metroid era, according to the scans made through out the games and the location of certain items and statues, the Power suit technology she uses is over 1100 years out of date technology to metroid modern time (olus it's not even at full capacity yet). and like I said before. dispite it being further in the future. the races of Metroid DREAM of having her battle suit technology. both the space pirates and the GF want in on how it works so they canuse it's abilities for themselves. currently the GF is a step ahead of the rest as they can somewhat reproduce the morphball.
it only seems that Metroid is in the future.
one could also say it's not, and that the humans rather than finding the Hostile Cov, that in metroid they found friendly alien contact and traded knowledge and became a more advanced race and yadda yadda yadda.
or they could be paralell universes and yadda yadda yadda.
but meh, I'll say she's in the future for arguments sake.

words of wisdom from the super computer could/would help.

I don't get that bit about how can flip a tank, but not punt a grunt halfway across the battlefield, myself.

I wish they would really think about how they divvy out the physics. because if h could display that sort of strength throughout the game, imagine just how much more difficult the enemies would be to kill!

If this were the case throughout the games, his strength I mean, he would outmatch Samus in a test of strength, no doubt about it.

I still don't get the morphball technology...how the hell does she fit into that tiny little space with all that armor on? I get the feeling it might utilize pocket dimensions or something in ball mode.

Without their suits, yes, I agree that John (MC) would win.

With Armor, if you take into consideration the strength that MC can exude, Samus would still win due to being faster and having more weaponry at her disposal.

And when I say Unreal Tournament speed, I'm taking the modded server's where the characters run at, like, 30 MPH. XD

If we got into a debate on what they would be like outside of their continuities, I'm sure Master CHief would be able to carry a wider range of weaponry. I'm sure he could find a way to strap one of those stationary shields to himself. XD

Xerkxes In reply to tanekxavier [2011-01-18 22:31:57 +0000 UTC]

It's mostly because the flipping tanks thing is mostly just a game mechanic too keep the game rolling.
overturned vehicles would be useless the second they flip if the player couldn't move them.
Spartans are supposed to be able to flip Warthogs, albiet with effort, but in game you don't even see the spartan touch the vehicle, it just spins in place and lands on all fours if there is no obstruction.
you can literally hold the button for a second, and turn away to defend yourself as the vehicle magically uprights itself.

about strength though, I'm not sure anymore, for two reasons:
1st: Samus tosses around Brute sized, and larger, enemies in Other M with single kicks or one armed tosses. implying Samus incredible super human strength.
whats more is she also managed to direct a creature easily TWICE the size of a warthog toward her while it was in midair. depending on how you look at the cinematic, it even looks like she's the one pulling it out of the Lava/magma.
from what I've seen/read of Spartans in media other than games, that rivals them pretty much.

2nd: I find this one is bullshit, you'll probably find it bullshit.
but someone found the size and mass of the planet Zebes, Samus' home planet where she trained on both with and without her armor, in metroid prime (and on the website)and managed to calculate the gravity of the planet, at 865.5 times earths gravity!
It's probably just some nonsense number the writer threw in on a whim, not knowing what they'd equate too... but at the same time...
Samus' armor would take require a power-source of unfathomable output to be anywhere close to being realistic, one of the "weaker" weapons is in the Terawatt output ranges, it can move at super sonic speeds on foot, etc. I don't think Nintendo knows just how unrealistic Samus is.

even excluding reason number two.. she does display super human attributes and skills on par with that of a spartan, she's within the range of "Standing a fair chance" but I'd still have to give it to the chief in unarmored combat.
But the Manga and Other M show Samus' melee combat capabilities, still only giving vague pieces and bits more information compared to Halo's dozens of Novels and comics.
