Agreed! I don’t care what happened in the last seasons. If you still ship Shiro and Allura, or Lotor and Allura, or even do selfinsert art of Shiro but you’re still being attacked by canon nazis I’ll defend you!!

Thankfully there's not many canon nazis around here. Tumblr and Twitter on the other hand...yeah. Those people need to get a life.

Oh yeah, definitely. I remember when they announced when Shiro was “Gay”, I drew two fan art pieces of him as Bisexual. I got a comment on one of them from a canon nazis and ended up blocking them. I’ll still never understand why they had to throw that in there at the last minute. The main characters spent 99.9% of their time in space and never ever had Shiro mention about a fiancé or any family member(s). If they did it from the start that could’ve worked, but last minute? Nope that just doesn’t work for me.

Absolutely. You can't throw something in there like that at the last minute, and not expect problems to occur. The real kicker is that Shiro was never intended to be lbgt to begin with. One of the writers stated that Shiro and Allura was initially being put in place, and that's evident during the first two seasons. Making him lgbt was all the execute producers' doing; they didn't tell the writers till the last minute. It was tacked on.
The EPs originally wanted Shiro to be permanently axed off, but were told they could no longer do it once he became popular. Let's be honest, he was the show's most popular character; especially among the female demographic. The EPs wanted Keith to be the leader and main star, and I think they were resentful that Shiro's popularity overshadowed Keith. I have no doubt Shiro was made "gay" out of spite. And last I checked, there is documented proof that they were leaving his exact orientation open for interpretation.

Ugh. That’s just terrible!! I can’t believe the executive producers would do that. Normally they should be HAPPY that a character is popular regardless of who they are. Especially if it’s attracting more girls to watch the show. And just making him “Gay” out of spite is just so ignorant and insulting to the lgbt community! Though I’m glad that they didn’t permanently kill him off is good because if they did the show would’ve immediately go down hill.
And of course Shiro would be really popular with the female demographic! I mean look at the way they drew him!!! Muscular, caring, protective, sexy and confident!!! Why wouldn’t he be popular with the ladies?! I do love Keith, I also ship him with Shiro because Sheith is one of my favorite pairings of the show. (I also like Klance, but man do I hate some of its fans). The point is, that they should NEVER try to get rid of a popular character no matter what the reason, it’s like if the people from Pokémon killed off Ash or Pikachu. What good would that bring? It’ll just make them lose views and money.

The spite bit is pure speculation, but it's the only logical conclusion I can come up with. It makes sense from everything I've read.

It was all a pr stunt just so they could be, "Look! Look how woke we are! Give us as much attention as Steven Universe!" Or maybe it was done to distract from the horrendous writing of the final two seasons.

I think you’re right. It all makes sense. There’s no other explanation. And besides, anyone who says that they did a “great job” representing the lgbt community by just making a character “Gay”, apparently has not seen a show that does a better job with that topic. Or knows the difference between good writing and character development and rushed writing and character development thrown out the door.
