Description
Continuation of the 'Real Monsters' character design series."The Schizophrenia monster is a vile and disgusting creature that manipulates its victims into doing its bidding. It uses hallucinogenic gases secreted form the pores on his underbelly to control and influence others to do what he wants.
They are often accompanied by other monsters such as Paranoia, with Schizophrenia taking up an authoritative role much like a circus ringleader."

As someone who suffers from anxiety and schizoaffective disorder I really love the idea and design of these characters. It makes the often misunderstood concept of mental illness seem easier to grasp for people who are unfamiliar or have never struggled with it themselves. It's also a lighter approach to something that can be rather dark, which I also like.

ahh cool! I can see him properly here.. he's a good design, but I'm not sure he says "schizophrenia" to me.. mind you, I'm not sure what would!! he certainly looks like he could be noxious and gassy like the description reads... perhaps if her was mire vivid it would help him to look more toxic? (like those poisonous amphibians with the bright markings) ?

I know what you mean, for this I stuck to a specific concept of the monster being the controlling voice that most people with schizophrenias suffer from. Hes the kind of monster that makes you do things, breaking down your own judgement.
I am thinking about redesigning him a bit, and I really love the poisonous frog colors idea!

he's certainly got a big enough mouth to be barking out orders to the others.. perhaps he could get a bit more of a maffia boss type feeling? The multiple heads idea would have been a good one for schizophrenia potentially, but U already Used that (and quite rightly so!) ... it's probably better to focus on this guy being the "Boss" like U have done. Maybe making him more slithery and "eel-like" could portray his manipulative qualities a bit more?

I think I might sketch some actual mafia boss type characters and get a feel for what makes them 'them'. Then see how I can make Schizophrenia have more of the feel.
I love the eel idea too, I think it could be incorporated into the design well. (I keep thinking about the eels from the little mermaid...)

These are so great. The more you look at them, the more nuances you can find, and that's very much how mental illness is. There's what you see at first glance, but you can always find more when you look deeper. For example, I really like the watercolor shading and how it looks kind of like blood, which I somehow didn't even notice when I first looked at the design.
It's also kind of fun to imagine what the other side of the creature looks like and if it's more horrible than the side you see.

I love what you say about the little naunces etc. I will try to weave lots of little things like that in future designs. I dont tend to do them on purpose though, they just tend to do it themselves so maybe I wont put too much thought into it?
In my initial sketches I did draw the front of him, but he never really turned out as interesting as the front. I do like the idea of his being even more horrid on the other side though!

You're welcome. I think you're doing a great job with the nuances and I think it's even better that they just come out on their own. I know how that can be sometimes, and trying to force or replicate something that just naturally happens in art can end up making it look unnatural and stilted. So just keep on doing what you're doing, the result is amazing!

Thats true, Ive only really just learnt to let thing like that happen by themselves. Sometimes you have to trust in your own little way of thinking and things make it into the artwork without even meaning too.

I completely understand workload, and it's very kind of you to do extra work on the monsters to "make up for" not being able to do so this weekend, but don't feel like you have to. Though if you want to, I'm certainly not going to stop you from doing so.
