Description Alterative title: "Background" (...seriously, I had no clue :/ )

So, here's my first (read: my first published) attempt of a decent background. Actually I had this ready a long time ago, but I got scared of the amount of things to colour (like I said, it was A LONG time ago) so I threw it in a folder and forgot its existence. ...until now.

It didn't came out bad as I feared... if you forget the fact that the perspective is randomic (there wasn't a proper construction of it, so if you try to put down the lines that converge to the vanishing point... well, just don't). Also, trees. How do you do fucking trees?! I totally hate how they came out (I mean leaves, I don't dislike the trunk), but I was so done that I left them as they were. Must practice on vegetation. u_u

About other things... as the symbols on the... drapes?... there's not actually much I can say by now. It's the crest of a small group founded by... a cursed family that... hunts things. Really, is not that interesting. Quite trivial, indeed. I'll write more about in future, probably.

OH I ALMOST FORGOT: I used a reference image (because there was a reference image of course, I'm not enough skilled to create such a thing from nothing), but I didn't saved it and I don't know how to find it again. :/ It was from Wikimedia Commons though, so there shouldn't be problems regard copyright. I'll try to find it however, in case I'll add the link.
I can't believe i found it!! °-°

Looks pretty good! I think more distinct directional lighting/cast shadows would help it. At the moment things are lit very ambient and soft/flat, like if the sky was overcast; it makes it harder to discern distances when each layer of distance is more or less the same brightness. In the reference image, the stripes of shadows on the ground/wall help to show how much space is between each wall segment on the left. This is partly because it gives parallel lines and detail that skew the more the distance increases, and also because objects we can't see are casting those shadows, helping to emphasize space. The variations in the material/dirtiness of the stone help to separate each layer of distance, too.

Overall, though, you captured the geometry well!

I still have a lot to learn about backgrounds x_x
Thanks for the tips, I  will keep in mind for the next time!

it look really neat but the drapes look odd, it didn't look too parallel with the building, the door too look kindda long (?) maybe, but it's really a good attempt, good job ^w^b

It's a neat picture. If you had not said that about the perspective I wouldn't have realized XD But looking at it closely it qoudn't feel wrong if the wooden path was a bit curved to te right. Because the arches and walls seem to being curved to that side too. Just a little bit, from my point of view.

Anyway, it's really cool and the purple/blue on the clothes is a nice effect ^w^

Thank you!
The perspective is surely the worst thing here (not worse than those leaves, though xD), I don't know what I was thinking when I drew it (I don't even know WHEN I drew it actually) xD

The perspective is great, but it looks "flat".
I think it's because the texture of every stone is similar, and just as sharp regardless of distance. To give a more "deepness" feeling, you would need to blur some parts of it, and maybe shade it differently depending on where you want the focus to be

It's still way better than what I could ever think about doing, but I know such old stones and I have okay eyes <3

That's the kind of thing I usually do when I'm about to end a drawing, but this time I was so done (and the temperature is so high x_x) that I just though "screw it, colours are done, you're finished" xD. Regarding the texture, I just found it and I like it so much that I wanted to use it immediately (= I slapped it on the drawing without thinking too much).
Thanks for the tips, I'll surely consider them the next time!

This is amazing! if you full-view it, it feels like you can actually walk through the walkway! loving the arches and drapes!  and the flare of the cloaked figure!
