The 2012 one is a bit more expressive and loose in form, while the lines are not as straight as the 2014 one, it seems to convey more emotion and sinisterness to the character.
The 2014 one tops in eyes though, definitely! and shapes are more defined, but the expression seems to fall a bit more under a generic sonic picture, whereas the 2012 one had it's own flare and really gave the character depth in the face (Particular the muzzle.) 

do not take any of the feedback where folks like the 2012 one to heart though, finding the exact spot you want to be in can be difficult and it requires exploration and trying out different things. 2014 stands on it's own wonderfully, but the alluring smirk of the 2012 can be quite appealing and is probably influencing.  Good luck on your progress!
