Description Today it snowed a lot in Aachen, so I took the opportunity to take some more pictures of heavy freight diesels in snow, this time at the Gemmenicher Tunnel (which is, by the way, the border between Germany and Belgium), which I had last taken pictures of in summer . Sadly, it wasn't anything very interesting, just a usual pair of SNCB/NMBS class 55s (although once electric operations start, they'll probably cease being usual pretty quickly), which pulled a mixed freight train including some Audis which now get their first winter test. They sure took their time as they made their way along the line.

Featured in my journal [link] , if you don't mind!

I admit, you made me curious there: Did anyone ever actually mind being featured?

Thank you, Eric!

Thankfully, so far not. But people are so unpredictable. Since I ran into a bunch of deviants who regarded thanking for faves as 'spamming', little will truly surprise me.

Hm... Well, I guess that's the downside of the diversity that makes DA so cool.

Small downside, large diversity.

Excellent photo. The winter scenery is striking and contrasts well with the locomotive. Good work!

I like it a lot, Torsten. Perhaps it's the contrast between the power of the train and the fragility of the snow on the branches and the wires. Good composition too. Worth your time, I'd say.

Thank you! I actually wasn't too certain of this shot to begin with, as I don't like the many overhead wires in the way.

That's the good thing of snow. It creates harmony where there wouldn't be any otherwise - I think the overhead wires aren't a problem at all here, they blend in with the texture of the snow-covered tree branches.

Damn, that's no snow, that's an arctic blizzard!

It snowed here too, at about 4am, then it rained and the snow melted, so no snowy pictures from me, yet...

ZCochrane In reply to CJSutcliffe [2008-11-25 08:55:16 +0000 UTC]

It was a lot of snow, but not actually that cold, only about 0 °C. Anyway, I'm certainly looking forward to your snow pictures if you make any!

If we get any snow of course, in Britain at the best of times snow appears to be rare as rocking horse crap...
