Description
This picture for Mario Monsters depicts Bonetail from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and has the distinction of being the first drawing of a monster I have NOT ACTUALLY FOUGHT YET. However, it also has the distinction of being really hard to get to, and to beat. And it also has two other manditory boss battles that play out exactly the same way, so it's not exactly like I was venturing into uncharted waters with this guy.

However, I did have a bit of drama surrounding the drawing of bonetail, and perhaps it BECAUSE I have never faced him before that the picture cause me so much greif. I drew most of it, got a friends opinion, and we both decided that it wasn't up to my usual standards. So I put it aside, rationalizing to redraw it later, and finished Piantissimo (another greif story of a monster drawing, though that turned out to be pretty good in the end, despite causing me a good deal more anguish).

Eventually, I get an email from David (the Mario Monsters webmaster and site creator) wondering what's up, and I resolve to kick myself out of the slump I was in. I decide that I don't want to do all the work of drawing him again since I was ALMOST finished with the linework, and I took another long look at what I had drawn. I played around with the specific parts that I was unhappy with a bit, and got it looking at least halfway decent. The coloring added more decency to it, since that always helps put things into perpective, and I decided I could live with submitting this.

Still, I don't think this is QUITE up to my usual standards for the Mario Monster drawings, but then again I didn't initially think much of what came out of Smorg (another story of anguish, though this time maybe not as painful), and that's my most popular out of any of my works, Mario Monsters or not!
