Cuty! Where does the name "Meerkat" come from? If it's a dutch word, it's translation in english would be "lake-cat"! Is it?

In Dutch, it means 'sea-cat' I've literally just had to look it up online haha

big smile.... although I've been living in Switzerland for more than 25 years, I'm still dutch (was born and grew up in Holland).... 

 

The dutch word "meer" means lake. Be careful: the german word "meer" means sea.....
The dutch word "zee" means sea, the german word "see" means lake...
Confusing, isn't it? Well, at school in Holland we got confused as well by this....
Even more: The german word "nordsee" means "noordzee".....
