OH S**T, i started to watch this series a few weeks ago, this is completely awesome, absolutely what Sci-Fi animated series were in the 90s.

Can I share this on a FB Exosquad fan page I just created? And on the cover of a 'Bring back Exosquad' petition I started on Change.org? (Of course, I would welcome more people to sign the petition and join the page!)

thanks

Sure.

I don't need them to bring it back persay, but I'd like to see the 2nd season make it to DVD.

Also should do more art of it (mostly have unfinished sketches of it in my sketchbooks)

Thanks. Even if they don't bring back Exosquad I would like all 52 episodes on internationally released DVD too.... with cast/crew interviews, image galleries and maybe three views of all the E-frames.

They should either reair it, remake it, or make a sequel show.

This should have been the dvd cover it is totally AWESOME!
It is a crime that this show has been forgotten for so many years. I dare to say that if the studio would have embrace this series it would have change the way we make americans cartoons today. It is a shame.

LOL!

I just started watching this on Hulu

It was a pretty good show, well written.

One unusual thing about it was the hairstyles; did they resurrect the 80s band "Flock of Seagulls" to do the designs? (all variations on half bald).

Ah! You, too, are a fan now? I have been of this show since it showed on TV back in 1993.

The show was colorful. But yeah, there was a solid plot line. I think if the show had a reboot, with toned down colors & a better hair designer, it would be golden.

On another semi-sad note, I don't think the first season dvd did well enough for them to release the 2nd and final season. Kinda wish they just released the whole series as one set. No need to release 2 seasons seperately, if that's all there was.

I kinda liked the hair designs, actually (child of the 80s and all that ).

One problem I had with the show it being so heavily tied to the toys that it made certain concepts kind of silly; like the 'Exo Fleet': Why did the fleet have to be named for the power suits? Why not call it 'Earth Fleet' or something.

Likewise with the Exo Frames themselves; having all of them capable of space combat seemed odd, why not have dedicated space fighters instead (of which Abel Squad had exactly ONE o_0 ).

I'll search out the first DVD set, espically if it has any extras (and I think I can pull off a reasonable version of Nara Burns in poser as well ).

On an unrelated note: I hope you don't mind, but I 'borrowed' your Fornax magazine cover to help accentuate an image of my own (please don't sue ): [link]

Did you see what they ADDED to JT. Marsh's hair on the cover of the DVD? I'm refering to the picture of him in the circle.

Anyways great job overhauling the box art

Yup... his hair in that circle kinda reminds me of Conan O'Brian (doesn't make much sense that they fudged that detail like that). But yeah thanks for the comment

Nice! Exosquad was a good show- I hadn't heard about it for years and so forgot. Whoops.
I haven't seen many bad covers for shows, but the ones I did- even if I didn't care about the show- I wished I'd had the skill to make better.
...Like so much Stan Lee shoving Ben Grimm into the Batmobile.

Malcadon In reply to zakuman [2009-12-11 22:34:55 +0000 UTC]

Dude, how could I have forgotten about Batman!?!

Batman was best cartoon to come out of the 90'S! That dark, film noir style was just epic! I watched it until the Bruce Timm-styled team from the Superman cartoon took over, and it totally lost its feel. Batman Beyond was an awesome cyberpunk extension to the pre-Bruce Tim Batman. The newer, over-hyped "THE Batman" cartoon just sucked ass! And what the 90's Batman did to the image of the "Dark Knight", so did Batman: The Brave and the Bold did with the image of the classic "Caped Crusader".

ExoSquad really owed it success to the mature Robotech anime. It was good to see an American animated show push the limits of cartoon violence, for once.

zakuman In reply to Malcadon [2009-12-11 23:36:02 +0000 UTC]

Well lets not forget linear story either. I've been watching a lotta bad 80's toons lately, and they're very episodic. They may have a 2 parter sometimes. But yeah, good semi-adult themed stories in american toons is hard to come by.

As for Robotech, the first series with Rick Hunter and crew was AWESOME!!! Took the big mech idea (supplied by Gundam) and gave it a good story.

Malcadon In reply to zakuman [2009-12-12 07:54:27 +0000 UTC]

Episodic is not necessarily a bad thing. Keeping up with an anime saga can be a real headache.

What 80's cartoons lack in violence, they made up in sexual innuendos - more so with GIJoe.

Robotech was EPIC, and Gundam really raised the bar on the whole giant robot genre!
