I feel a little bit iffy about Sombra getting involved, especially after his history. I can't believe that Cadence would put any trust in him.

Sombra? So either Sombra has reformed or Cadance really is that desperate.

He's Sombra, the guy that turned an Alicorn into stone. He can do that

That was before the darkness was removed from him, though, and presumably along with it any Umbra powers he may have had.

Wait, Sombra? ...well I guess the best pony to go against Midnight would be the first pony to ever user dark magic, Sombra himself... but I wonder how Cadence convinced him to help?

Nonononononononono, it's horrible. Good concept, but they just threw the potential out of the window

I dunno what you mean, that comic arc was amazing in my opinion. I teared up a bit at the end.

Well, that's just my opinion. Enjoy your comic. It's not bad, perse, I think it's bad in context of what they could have done

Fan as I am of AUs and hypothetical plotlines, I must ask - what could they have done?

Well, I just hoped for a darker storyline, like Sombra's love interest has actually turned evil, not.. Whatever reason she had

Eh, I liked the concept of her honestly doing the wrong thing for the right reason - and thinking that the wrong thing is the right thing.

(I'm bringing this back, damnit)
Okay, most of that comment chain was written in the heat of the moment, and, looking bad, it wasn't that bad, and I'm just too much in love with dark shit, I'll have to re read it to get a more unbiased opinion. But, from what I remember, and please correct me if I'm wrong, she was tricked by the Umbrum to do all of that. That's not doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, that is being tricked into doing the wrong thing. Doing the "wrong thing for the right reason" is having most, if not all the facts of the matter, but reaching a conclusion that one might deem wrong looking back. Look at mayor Lionheart from Zootopia (spoilers). He is manipulated, yes, but Bellwether just gives him a push. He reached the conclusion of keeping it a secret from the public himself. What'sherface is manipulated by the umbrum into doing exactly what they want her to do

I have no recollection of my thought process behind that conversation, so I can only defend it so much. But I do want to point out that she was doing the wrong thing for the right reason... it's just that she thought it was the right thing and that the actions she was taking didn't match what she thought her actions were. I mean, you can dislike it regardless of that, but still.
I guess her actually being evil could have worked (although I did like her basically manipulating the various villains and troublemakers for her own purposes), but I genuinely liked the ending and how things turned out. It was as close as any of the comics has gotten to making me tear up.

The funny thing is, I just got done reading the comic about Sombra's origin story, and this could really work as an alternative ending to his story were he didn't become a power hungry sociopath after murdering getting his powers.
