Bathers on the beach, Santa Monica - a beachfront city in western L.A. County

Located on Santa Monica Bay, it is bordered on three sides by the city of Los Angeles – Pacific Palisades to the north, Brentwood on the northeast, Sawtelle on the east, Mar Vista on the southeast, and Venice on the south.

Santa Monica became a famed resort town by the early 20th century due to its agreeable climate (Avg. 310 sunny days annually) and the building of the iconic Santa Monica Pier in 1909.

The pier remains a popular destination to this day - the Santa Monica Looff Hippodrome (carousel) at the Pier is beautiful old piece of machinery, and a National Historic Landmark.



The  (I-10) Santa Monica Freeway between Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles has the distinction of being one of the busiest highways in all of North America.
You can take I-10 all the way East across seven U.S. states and end up in Florida.
