Thank you so much. It is not everyday change to draw classic animated character and sex symbol like Jessica Rabbit.

The whole idea of adding Courage the Cowardly Dog here came from commissioner of this piece who suggested I should try doing comical characters/toons more often.

Yeah something like that.

It is a funny thing that during my early childhood (7-13 years old), after drawing many short stories about He-Man and his friends and enemies, I also created some stories with obscure Disney characters in leading role (like Phantom Blot, man from a future Iga Biba (as he was called in Slovene), Mr. X, etc) and also Disney-influenced toons. Then I created my own version of Batman, called something like the 'Flying Man' who also used Jedi lightsaber and had an enemy called Bobby who was wannabe Darth Vader lol.

Phantom Blot...I loved him in the old comics...and was happy to see him recently return over in Darkwing Duck

Did you know that Phantom Blot withouth mask was actually modeled after Walt Disney?

I have heard that...cant say I ever saw it that i recall

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2014-01-16 10:21:54 +0000 UTC]

But you have probably seen him without his mask (as he was umasked at the end of his first story)? For me he is still the best (and most intelligent) Mickey villain.

Not sure if I ever saw that one and that wa sthe only story they let him be unmasked

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2014-01-16 18:50:11 +0000 UTC]

He was unmasked at the final page of his first story, published somewhere at the end of 30s. I consider that story to be Blot's best and also one of the best Mickey stories ever (I was always more of a 'Duck tales' fan). He tried so many times to kill Mickey with the help of strange devices, but when he is finally defeated & unmasked we finally learn about his soft heart lol.

Yeah like I said I dont think I ever saw it as I was never a big of Mickey fan like you I prefered Scrooge and the Duck family but I do have a few of the Walt Disney comics he was in.....I really liked him in his recent appearnce in the Darkwing Duck Revival (gawd I loved that cartoon) in a special crossover with the good people of Duckburg and featuring so many classic villains it was a smorgasboard of fandom fun

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2014-01-16 23:02:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the Duck family was the most interesting and also had the best adventures.

I like some of those more enigmatic members of Mickey's supporting cast like Ega Beeva. Some of those old, 70s stories my father collected were the beast read during log summer days of my early years.

Heh////never even heard of him...Like I said I prefered the Ducks and only got the Mickeys by accident or if I found them cheap (dime boxes and the like)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2014-01-17 17:48:56 +0000 UTC]

It is also possible that you never heard about him because he was regular character in European versions that were made by French and Italian authors (he was very popular in Italy), although his first appearance happened in American comic.

Those longer Duck stories with Magica DeSpell and Beagle Boys that were done by Carl Barks were my favorites.

Ah makes sense he was more used abroad (like certain Marvel characters were) and they were blink and you missed them over here

Oh yes...have you ever read the Life story of Scrooge (I cant recall the exact title but you get the point) it was like a 12 part story that told his full history of gaining his fortune)

Like those members of British editions of Excalibur?

Yeah I read certain story about his origins (arriving to Klondike from Scotland as poor gold miner), but don't think it was that long.

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2014-01-20 18:06:32 +0000 UTC]

Nah Excalibur got pretty well used (probably due to them almost all of having major X-ties) I meant people like Motormouth, Dark Angel, Death's Head ....who ironically enough are part of Next's Next Big event called Revolutionary War lol

Well they probably had the origin then ten made a story that went it to detail as the one I talk about was 12 issues

Thouse names sound like refugees from some overblown, satirical glam metal band, something similar like Gwar.

Interesting. On the side note, I always liked Scrooge's confrontations with Magica DeSpell, and back then, as a kid, wanted to see them dating lol.

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2014-01-21 00:24:31 +0000 UTC]

They were all part of the Briitsh Marvel comics from the 80s and 90s they had their own characters and for the most part even own continiuty.. Especially their licensed titles like GIJoe and Tarnsformers

I dont know about dating but yeah I loved that...was my favorite part of the cartoon next to Flintheart

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2014-01-21 10:55:47 +0000 UTC]

They still look ridiculous to me when it comes to appearance, very 80s and early 90s; great music period, but laughable when it comes to fashion taste & designing.

Flintheart yeah, another filthy rich & greedy Scottish duck, he was like corrupted version of Scrooge. And what was the name of thrid 'member' of old billionare ducks, the one with big glasses and crazy hairdo?

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2014-01-21 18:29:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the 90s left us with lost fo crap in comics

I have no idea had to look him and his name is John D Rockerduck and aparently he only had like one American American and mostly appeared in British, Hungarian and Italian versions of Scrooge

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2014-01-22 11:37:37 +0000 UTC]

Out of those comic book characters who defined the 90s, Deadpool, Cable and Domino are the only ones I still like/usually enjoy reading about.

Rockerduck, sounds like Rockefeller lol. His appearance were rare even here in Europe.

Yeah he was something special and so much more than people first expected out of him (look daddy, another hulked-out masked villain with attitude).

And what is Flintheart? Scottish or South African duck?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2014-01-26 19:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Yep he had that rare Brain and Brawn combo

He always has been Scottish just like Scorrge

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2014-01-28 14:30:12 +0000 UTC]

I read somewhere that he was originally South African but was later retconed into Scottish (during Duck Tales series) to avoid any possible connections to then still active apartheid regime.

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2014-01-30 21:00:34 +0000 UTC]

Turns out you are kinda right he was only Scottish in the beginning (despite the fact he always had a Scots accent in the cartoons) and has been South African ever since (even to this day technically although its not really mentioned

Thank you Ahem, this one was commissioned by a friend, a Jessica Rabbit fan, who wants to see me drawing characters from Cartoon Network, even if that is not my 'usual area'.

I know, we made a little 'compromise', since I wanted to draw her in my usual sytle (lets say more realistic/CB style). And thanks again for liking Courage.

Because I was a child, and Courage wasn't exactly child friendly.

Well, I read somewhere that many parents were not happy about that show. It was actually more aimed at adults, just like many other CN cartoons with their black humor.

LannaD In reply to yerbouti [2014-01-08 15:05:26 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. Billy and Mandy went the furthest, IMHO.

yerbouti In reply to LannaD [2014-01-08 15:27:35 +0000 UTC]

Ah I only heard about 'Billy and Mandy'. It looks like toilet humor prevailed in modern TV cartoons, while the animation went somewhere down the drainhole.

LannaD In reply to yerbouti [2014-01-08 17:26:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, the animation was insane, to say the least, like in ren and stimpy.

I like 'crazy music' like Zappa, so 'psychadelic cartoon stuf like that looks quite amusing and politically incorrect (if I ever begin to watch TV again).
