Description
Another group you ask? Well one of my groups is on it's way out the door and I can't say I've been invested in it to begin with. The other is sorely inactive and not sure if it's worth sticking around. But that aside, here's another Rice incarnation. Let's hope this one is in for the long haul.
This group looks fabulous and Rice is a complicated little knot of a character. I hope she really gets a chance to do things this time around. Third times the charm and all that.
Edit:
Chopped the History in half and made it more streamlined. Was just so long.

Name: N/A
Nicknames: Rice
Age: 182
Physical Age: 24
Height: 5’3
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Faction: Disciple
While she is allied with them she has no real love for it. As a pirate she’d bordered on the more rebellious side and she still tends to think this way. But her constant fear of this place crumbling and her possibly being sent back to her time the moment she’d left has more or less determined her loyalties.
However, if there is found a way for them to leave the city and not be sent back as she imagines then she would be so easily swayed to become an insurgent. She is fickle, very fickle. But grateful to be saved from her sorry fate all the same. She has no ill will towards the city's overlord though. In fact she finds him terribly interesting.
Occupation:
Courier
Letters. packages, messages. You name it and she’ll get it there. For a price of course. The more sensitive or cumbersome her load the more she’ll charge.
Sybal Form:
Janja Nzuri ‘Sly Beauty’
Just as her names means she is swift, her lithe, lean body mimicking her own human form but with much more power. She lacks normal vocal cords but can grunt, growl or other assortments of animal noises. Mostly the sounds a wild dog or jackal might. She does have the ability to speak into someone’s mind but that is all and it can only work within a certain distance of about 40 or so yards and it gets softer the farther you go. After that it’s practically useless.
Her claws are thick and sharp and are perfectly capable of ripping and tearing. Her large ears catch sounds and voices quite well. And though she looks imposing she’d sooner stay out of fight and trick you into a sticky situation where she would have the upper hand. Her eyes work very well in the dark but in brightened areas she’s at a considerable disadvantage, preferring shadows and the like to move around.
Sybal Power:
Kasi Kivuli ‘Fast Shadow’
While her first few changes were rocky at best she has for the most part gotten a handle on her ability. She can teleport to any place she has been before regardless of which form she was in when she visited. It’s less of a teleport though and more like a shadow travel. Its’ easier for her to move across flat open spaces than it is for her to get through a clustered area. This doesn’t mean she can’t do so though, it’ll just take a little longer and zap far more of her strength.
She simply envisions where she wishes to go and she’ll be there. Once she comes out though she can be drained and tired and will make sure to go less traversed places to send her packages to. This ability makes her courier services much easier. And if the item is sensitive it’s terribly easy to get it where she needs to. Providing she’s been there of course.
She can be intercepted on her travels if someone is able to read her mind and see where she’s going. She can also take one other person with her if she needs to. And as stated before her ‘landings’ leave her drained and wide open. Also any dimensional barriers put up can also harm her, greatly. Once she changes back she always goes to stuff her face and then passes out promptly and then sleeps.
Docile or Feral:
Docile
Rice’s Sybal form took some getting used to. She would change and after coming to her senses would spend her time wandering around in the enclosed space they’d given her to better transition. They were surprised when she suddenly vanished and appeared outside the door. Not too much of course but eventually they worked her through it. Once she figured out her teleportation ability was an inner manifestation of her longing to travel it became easier to handle.
Now after numerous years of training and honing her skills she has become quite adept at using it. She can still lose control if she’s overly stressed or in danger though but since her ability can only ever harm herself she’s not much of a threat to anyone while using it.
Personality:
|Untrusting | Introverted | Adventurous | Cynical | Energetic | Playful | Aloof | Blunt |
Rice isn’t very trusting and it will take a good deal of time to get her to open up or share anything at all. Blame her ruined youth of war and strife on this as most of who she was retreated inside to save itself. Her latest betrayal has left her unfond of people prying or trying to get close to her. She’s suspicious if you do and will probably avoid you if you get too clingy or curious and she hasn’t reached a certain level of comfort with you. She comes off as aloof at times and at the worst cynical and won’t believe something unless she sees it for herself. Weak people aren’t viewed fondly and she considers them a waste unless they can be used for something else.
One thing that has never dwindled is her thirst for adventure, for exploring and finding exciting things to. She often will get in over her head but she seems to thrive in the adversity and wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s very alert of her surroundings and despises being caught off guard. And if you wrong her somehow she will have her revenge, sooner or later. When speaking she can be a bit blunt and rude unless she’s bargaining then she’s as sweet as honey. She cares little about social standings, unless it has some connection to her work. Although people who are obviously living off the work of others without payment or consent or physically abusing someone for their own gain and will receive a good deal of hate directed at them.
Women who come off as superficial and spend their time gossiping are met with scorn. She also enjoys games be it a card or board game or something physical. If she’s never played she’ll give it a try. And if you can get past her emotional walls and unfriendly exterior she can be quite kind but she has an odd way of showing it sometimes. Once you’ve earned her trust you better not break it because it will not be taken lightly. Also don’t come to her with your sob stories if she hasn't befriended you. She doesn’t care about them and if you want comfort you’d better find it elsewhere. And if she does it would be unwise to bank on an understanding response even if she means it nicely.
Although getting to know her better will allow someone to better understand her attitudes and mannerisms. There are things she can care about they are just few and far in between.
Her pirating days have left her with a nasty habit of nicking things if she can get away with it. If you have something shiny laying around and it turns up missing after she’s gone she probably took it. But for the most part she’s ‘conformed’ to an average job life.
History:
Rice was born in the late 1600’s in the heart of the African Congo with a name befitting her people. Her tribe like many others fought for land and resources but the introduction of a more fast paced slave trade had made things far more complicated. She grew up in a perilous life and at the age of 17 found herself captured and forced to trek over the vast expanse of her home continent where she and her family and those who hadn’t died in the skirmishes were packed on to shipping boats. Smashed together into tight quarters like sardines, shackled like animals and there they would be held for the long journey across the sea.
Finally they landed and she along with her other living cargo who had survived that brutal voyage were sent to be sold in the markets of what would become known as the West Indies. Not understanding the language little information was exchanged but as this had been going on for sometime it was obvious what was to happen. She was a slave now, someone’s property and considered a lowly, sub-human creature unworthy of even kindness to some. No translation was needed to understand this simple fact.
There was a brief reunion with her older brothers, the only others of her family who had survived the trip. But just as quickly as they had embraced they were stripped from her and sent to the Colonies while she was bought and taken to the sugar plantations in the south. Two years were spent in that wretched place where she was demeaned, treated like an animal and witnessed far more than she ever wished to see or be subjected to. Working the hot, unforgiving fields and being whipped for her broken, snarky english once she got a good handle on it. She was not the dumb savage they thought her to be. Not by a long shot.
One night a band of pirates attacked the coastal plantation. They'd hit others in the area and of course the slaves revolted and joined the pirates in their conquest. Her exploits had been witnessed and the merry band of pirates found her information of the other plantations in the area usefull. Some of the slaves wished to be released back home but most had family or friends they wished to find and so they took up residence with the pirates who welcomed them with open arms.
The next 5 years would be spent living on the high seas. She never quit searching for his siblings but despite that she found she’d made quite the seafarer. While she was a woman and never given a real rank the men knew of her cunning and speed and utilized it as best they could. She heartily enjoyed the life of a pirate and finding that not all the pale skinned people of this world were soulless wretches was indeed good for her.
The day she came to Sybal Heim she had been on an undercover mission with a fellow pirate who turned out to be a traitor. And just when things seemed be going so well they took a turn for the worst. On one of their excursions he took her a bit off the beaten path and they were come upon by a group of british soldiers. An ambush. And it didn’t take Rice long to realize what was going on since her partner in crime was all too eager to spill the beans.
She’d been getting too popular with the crew, and despite the fact that he should be next in like to take over as captain he felt that she would be voted in instead of him. She kept waiting for the punch line, for him to break character or give her some sign that this was just another job. But it never came and she knew then she was going to be carted back to the sugar plantations and she would sooner have died. He and his cohorts tried to corner her but she ran, her quick footwork saving her tail but she was on an island with one port and nowhere to really go. Taking the info she'd overheard about a cave system she darted that direction with her would-be captors close behind. Where that led she didn’t know but she was desperate to escape and every fiber of her being screamed for something, anything to save her from this fate.
She pinpointed the cave entrance soon after and slipped into the shadows. The men chasing her weren't far behind. as she traversed deeper in a soft light appeared at one end and she raced to it hoping to find freedom. Instead she found a forest? For a moment she hesitated unsure of what sorcery had allowed a full sized forest to exist under ground. But the echoing of feet and voiced behind her made her decision easily. She ran headlong into the trees forsaking her curiosity for escape and stepped out into the light.

After coming to her new home Rice went through the normal motions. She allowed the leaders here to assimilate her into their society. She found the Seele district comforting but also heart wrenching having found the closest thing to home in the market streets of that area where she is often found. She took up a job offering her speedy and reliable services as a courier with her sybal form being quite adept at alternate modes of transportation.
It didn't’ take her long to gather more intel though but she was thankful to the lord of this land for saving her. Even if she detested being kept in the walled city. And while she is grateful for this life here she i naturally suspicious of this new home. Never quite settling in emotionally and keeping herself closed off for the most part. She has allied herself with the disciples but she is not bound to them. The insurgents have the right idea and should they find a way to escape the walls for good and not be sent back to the time they left she might very well join their number. For there is nothing Rice hates more than a cage.
Additional Info:
This is the third group I’ve placed Rice in, here are her previous incarnations.
Rice Version 1.0
Rice Version 2.0
This place has some serious potential though so I'm not expecting to have to trash this in a few months to make a new one elsewhere~
