Description 180 million years ago, in what is now Germany, another unusual thalattosuchian resides. The Pelagosaurus typus wanders in the sandy seafloor in search of prey it can bite on in the little crevices, using its long toothed snout to snap the victims. Unfortunetly, the Pelagosaurus isn't feeling lucky, and continues his search for food, instead into the open water above, using its back legs to propel itself up. Pelagosaurus position in the thalattosuchian tree has been one filled with confusion. It is now regarded as a basal teleosaurid, even though its proportions seem odd and more keen to those filled by highly pelagic crocodylomorphs, which goes coherently with its name.
