Description Pierced Heaven
~~~
It's done, after working over the course of weeks, it's finally done. I've never put in so much work as I have done on this one. While I think it isn't the best space scene out there, I pretty satisfied with the fact that this is my second attempt at terraspace (First attempt was total crap, that isn't even worthy of being showcased in my scraps, but it's there anyway).
About the piece itself, It was inspired by the ever great *alyn , I looked at his work countless of times to try and get a feel for it without trying to hard to imitate his work. I also looked at a few of *sirgerg works as inspirations to try and make my own space fillers.
I used Photoshop and Terragen on this, with a few stock pictures from the stock exchange to add a bit of textures to the planet and the landscape. Don't ask me how long this took, I would imagine over 30-40 hours, but it could be double that as I did a lot of experimenting and undoing.
There really isn't a hidden meaning behind this, or no story about whats going on here... yet. This was made purely for the eyecandy and as an icebreaker in making terraspace works. I'll be continuing this type of work later on and trying to come up with new ideas.
Well there's pretty much all my rant, but I do have on requests:
I worked my ass off on this, so the only thing I ask from you (the public) is to Full View It, you can't really see how much work I put into this with just a thumbnail.
This is an extremely gorgeous picture, and only your second attempt? That's awesome. Can't say I know a lot how to make this kind of picture but for some reason it stands out to me more than a lot of other terraspace pictures I've seen. It's somehow more appealing, and it sort of looks like something I could dream about. I love it.
Really nice atmosphere in the terrain, gives a very foreboding alien landscape look to it. I think the transition from the sky to space scene could be extended upwards a bit, some more brushing flowing upwards. The nebula and space atmosphere seems too grainy or sharp in areas and it does slightly ruin the thickly vieled nebula effect. Another thing I would like to see incorporated into this image is some subtle nebula / cloud brushing generally around the scene, because the black really isolates a lot of the details which could be linked with it. Some areas of more dense areas of stars wouldn't go amiss either. The thickness of the side bordering needs fixing too, it does seem quite awkward with the thinner top and bottom. Speaking of which the bottom border should be thickened so the typo doesn't seem as squashed down there.
alyn [2004-12-19 19:59:36 +0000 UTC]
I'm liking this, yatsu. The part that made me really smile was the terrain, though. Gotta say that the atmosphere effect you've used there really works, I'm not normally a fan of alien-esque terrains that are of that style (it seems very generate terrain, normally that doesn't pay off unless you pick good settings), but you've pulled it off well, no doubt some of the post processing worked well for you there. The more distant mountains look especially good. The planet is nice, so is the general composition and nebula style, the only thing I really don't like is the grainy texture of the entire piece... not sure about that, part of it feels endearing, but in other aspects it just feels of detriment to the overall image quality.
Last thing is image border, not completely sure on that either, if you're going for top and bottom as well as sides then I wouldn't make the sides as large... just a nitpicking thing.
Overall, good stuff. Keep it up
Thanks for that massive critique, about the graininess, It's usually a habit of mine to sharpen my image and the done it down from there (I'll try to control that next time ). And Thanks again.
nebulae brushing is obviously a strogn point here, and it's really good. that aspect really makes this piece specail. However when I looked under that the starfield seemed a lil neglected, too seperate and uniform. make the starfield and the nebuale blend, and vary the star sizes and location, alyn and sirgerg are great examples of this. the planet seems good, varying colour and realism, however the whole piece is really grainy. it's brilliant, the terra, the nebuale and i wawnt to see more, but it's so grainy it nearly ruins it, can it not be saved any better? and i'm gonna watch you btw, this looks interesting!
That's pretty darn awesome. Rockin color theme and a tight atmosphere. It all looks a little intense (ie contrasty), but I can see the amount of effort put in. And that's very well deservant of a fav.
man such things in there
awesome
just one little question, on top you see some light coming trough the clouds, but not in the direction of that planet is there
but on the planet there is light, from where is that coming ??? (maybe it's a stupid question, but i wanted to ask, so...)
Very nice. My favorite part is the terrain in the distance. Very cool.
A lot of the space part looks too grainy. Maybe that's just from resizeing the image a bunch though?
Superb work, nice to see another style from you.
