Excellent! Let's see... To do this in 3D...
You need the room, with the wall textures, or a
backdrop and a floor would do.
Victoria with a nice skin, and hair.
Two shadow squares. SHADOW SQUARES!?!?
Yes. It's a simple plane, with a transparency map. That's a fancy term for white shadow figure on a black background. Put that between the light and the wall. You just apply the texture to the opacity section in Surfaces. Make sure your lights are set to shadows ON. Give it a test render, nice and small. Maybe a spot render or two first.

Try this. Create a new plane. Apply some picture to it, but just in the
Opacity. That is in the Surfaces tab, which you seem to be familiar with.
The picture will show up as black being transparent, and white being shown.
the different grays show more and less transparent.
Then render it with this...
A light shining through it, a background for the shadows to fall on,
The shadows turned on through the light. I usually go with deep shadow map,
instead of ray traced. Make sure the plane is set to cast shadows ON.
I think they usually default to on, but check.
What you should get is the image in shadow.
