Description Colored sketch commissioned by Sophia. I don't actually accept commissions for animals (because I, uh... can't really draw them), but she originally had a different picture commissioned but due to circumstances she had to cancel it. Instead, she asked me to sketch out her roommate's corgi, Flynn.

This adorable baby is currently fighting cancer and I hope that is as happy and comfortable as possible <3 Be strong, pup!

Oh dear.  Never heard of a dog with cancer before.  Corgis are pretty cute.  Thinking of getting one myself someday. He looks pretty happy here.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in dogs and cats that are older than 8-10 years old The main types of cancer they get are bowel/"breast"/prostate/lung. Castrating your female dog/cat before it hits "puberty" is one of the best ways to avoid them getting breast cancer, which is in the majority of cases fatal (btw this would work for humans too since breastcancer often feeds on oestrogen, which is a hormone intact females ahve more often). The animals that seem least succeptible to cancer are actually goats/sheeps/cows, but they too get it.
It is rare to see young dogs with cancer though and it is usually a sexually transmitted cancer/tumours type which comes from a virus.

Flynn was 5. We actually lost him recently. It was fast moving lymphoma. We didn't really have time to fight it. Apparently it's become a more common thing in middle aged Corgi's...(he was neutered as a pup) and they haven't really come to a conclusion as to why it's becoming more common. I'm glad to have the picture of him though. It means a lot to us. Thank you all for the well wishes. I wish I had better news. Thank you Yapi for taking time to do this for me! Thank you thank you thank you!

Poor little Flynn At least he had good guardians that cared for him. He was really unlucky to get cancer this young and it might have had to do with his breed.
My sincere condolenses for your loss.

Awww! I would love a dog, but I know that I can't handle the responsibility of a pet!

They do tie you down a bit, and since you like to travel, (and I have to say I enjoy seeing all the pictures of the places you go!), a dog would mean less of that. Unless of course you have generous friends who would be willing to look after it while you're gone, or you put it in a doggy hotel for the duration. They tend to be pretty expensive though D:
And as for the responsibility I think it's a bit like when you have kids xD You start out not really knowing what you're doing and then it gradually becomes second nature P:
Not that I've got kids, but I've worked with enough of them to have a basic idea >.>
So maybe it's not for right now, but for later on! \o/

Yeah, that's the main reason we haven't got one. We almost got a cat last week, just because there was one that was being really friendly to us on the street and we were gonna take it home, but in the end the kitty struggled when we tried to pick it up with a towel... So that was a no-go. But in the end I guess I was happy that we didn't take it, because yeah, we wouldn't know what to do with it when we travel, which is several times a year =S (I'm glad you enjoy the pics!)

Although I have a coworker with a corgi and when he travels he asks us to take him for a few days. So that's where I get my doggie fix! And also, I've come to learn that having a dog for a few days is enough for me, because after three days, even though I love that dog a lot, I'm glad to see him go.

Awh, kitty xD
I got my cat from a co-worker who couldn't take care of her anymore after having been kicked out by her boyfriend.
She's a bit of a nut, but lovely. And seeing as they're more independent than dogs in general they're easier to own if traveling is frequent.
There are food and water dispensers which can feed them automatically at set times, or someone can come and feed them while watering the plants and such xD

Hahah, yeah, they're a handfull. But it's good you have that arrangement with your coworker :3 It's like when you babysit, after a while you're more than happy to give the kids back XD
