Description Ahem... I'm a women's rights activist once more! (I must say, the women's rights must be in an extremely dire situation if people like me are called upon again and again! XDDD) This very blah drawing is the result of attempting make a quickie painting in an artists gathering and will be part of the display/exhibition later.

Medium: Watercolors, gouache, gold leaf, gold paint, tea and pencils on parchment
Time: 3 days?

Anyways, for this year, Fenrir and bishie recognition rights have been dumped aside for Io and empowering one's self by daydreaming (or atleast following one's dreams)!

(Fenrir: 'Watch your work be disdained! It was I who drew the masses... even if I was mistaken for a woman...' D: )

So why Io (and not a pretty Fenrir)? Welp, Io is supposed to be the goddess of creation. In her short lifespan, she created numerous things including the power generators (such a undramatic term for magical orbs!) Istalas and the basic designs for airships, before her head was lopped off. And so, is looked up to as the guardian saint of hope, creation and all that blah. (And since I feel like sparing you all from me long rambles, you may read Io's full story here )

End of pointless rambling!

I just noticed this comment right now and meh god.... XDDD I wonder why I never replied to it before? Maybe because I was laughing and grinning at it so hard (as its making me do right now) that it just slipped my mind?!

I feel like sketching something now!

Late reply but.... thank you! Heh heh... I got a bit impatient by the time I got to the cogs so its nice to hear you still find them 'like-worthy'!

Io!
Poor Io really....I'm glad she actually looks kind of happy here though.

I think her arms turned out really well - very convincingly mechanical but still a part of her and such.

I love how there's so many different colors subtly combined here and all the little details - like the hand coming out just above her head and such. The little confused bird is adorable too. And I like how she comes across as still kind of divine with the halo and such.

AND...i've always really liked the way you use hexagons...like in her wings or with other magic or whatever. I think it's a really unique touch, and it always comes out so well. ^_^

Weeelll... she was a somewhat happy soul! Especially if her precious Lord Veniti dumped her in her little studio (and better yet, remained there with her!).

But thank you! ^____^ I am glad her arms look a part of her! Each time I make those, a part of me brain goes 'and just how exactly did Veniti attach those to her, hm?? ' I think I've probably babbled before about that little random idea of mine about the magics and hexagons, ne? Thank you incredibly!

Beautiful use of color. I love the way the the eye just flows from one thing to another. You have a really good grip on the elements and principles of art.

btw, it's really beautiful, i love you made the textures on her wings and the faeries gold leaf?
what do you mean with gold leaf?

Yakra In reply to thiever [2008-03-16 11:40:54 +0000 UTC]

You comment got totally buried away in my pile of laziness! T___T Sorry!

Thank you so much for the comment though! Eh heh heh... I doubt Io would look this pretty if she was a real person though, ne? A thing of nightmares even!

I hope you still aren't having bad dreams!

Gold leaf is... gold leaf. *is bad at explaining* I think where you guys are, you'll get this more harder, sturdier form of gold leaf (at times... synthetically made? I wonder if that's the right term for it?). The one that is use though is this tissue thin one - real gold is beaten down into those little strips. It's actually made to be used in medicines and as sweet decoration.

Oh look! I found a little description! Maybe this'll answer your question better than me lame explaination! X'D

hey I remember blind mute girl without arms only communicates through thoughts
nice I love the treatment of the eyes and the wings the tiny fairie, zee yellow canary, and the tiny spirit in the background is good too
I love the way you ad these little details
the way the creative process is floating out of the orb and becoming solid yet not so solid in the background reminds me that women are the bringers of life into the world its pretty sweet and water hmmm well lots of unmetionable random thoughts better noy bring them forward.......earth and life, wind and fire hmmm water and mechana............ dam is the word since I live near one XD

Thank you! ^_^ Yip, yip, women be creators of life and all that! XD And of other things too, if one wishes! ^____^

Drawing details is fun! Somehow I felt a bit irritated though with this though. It all felt toooo confusing! D:

Random: Dams! They be so gorgeously, fascinatingly scary! D:

its funny how women create so much but they don't get the credit and most of the time the oppurtunity,....... but hey thts why they have Women's Day a reminder of how many centuries of nonrecognition have been spent by us anddd.......well they don't have a "Men's day" now do they so for women
details are fun but I find that if I start something I have to finish it because I loose interest soooooooo quickly..... and for me I think it depends on the medium, if I am doing something in poster or pen and ink there will be details but if its water colors or pencils i can't
Dams yes they are..............., :0

This is so '@_@'- inducing (couldn't think up the right word?).

I love the water (do I see mercury as well? ) puddle she's sitting in(and the overall liquid flowiness)! It represents the feminine the best. The pic wouldn't have had the same impact without it. Reminiscent of another not so magical/pretty feminine creation process, I'd best not go into or you'll kill me *kicks self in the head*.

The gold leaf's looking good too (even though it's the scanned version), the texture of it is looking so nice and rich. (Hehe, the little question marked birdie has been confuzzled into creation!)

That's just how creation is, random, chaotic, and beautiful yet frightening or intimidating for those who don't understand it... thus Io's fate. anyway, me loves anything related to creation stories! And this is beautiful!

Yakra In reply to merriya [2008-02-04 11:32:04 +0000 UTC]

I'm shocked that you you actually like it so much! This felt a bit... incomplete? slightly blah? not quite as dramatically gorgeous as it had appeared to be in me mind (how dramatically gorgeous our stuffs look in our minds and just look like pale blahs in real!)?

But your comment made me very, very happy! Thank you! ^_______^ So the water does look a bit like mercury? It was meant to look like so..! (*loves to add obscure stuffies that normal viewers would never understand since the poor things have no clue about this mad artist's backstories*) Heh heh... other not so magical feminine creation processes! XD I was not exactly thinking of so, but now that you've mentioned it, that is quite appropriate too!

Oh god, the gold! A moment of madness (this is what happens when one keeps thinking of philosopher's stones!) convinced me to go all bling and stick the gold! It was too overpowering! Thankfully the fixative seems to have subdued it's blinding shine somewhat...

Ah, the ever elusive image of the minds eye... why can't my hand ever translate it onto paper? But since I can't see your minds eye image, this looks cool enough by itself! (you must be used to me not making sense by now right?)

Yep, first i thought it was really reflective water, then it hit me like a revelation 'Mercury oooh~ I get it! . Backstories are fun! Actually, the not so magical feminine creation process does not come to mind at all... unless maybe you happen to be a person who thinks up random connections regarding the themes because of the lack of activity in the brain otherwise? Kinda like the Amberle deal in the Elfstones of Shannara... okay, where that that come from? My unthinking scares me *shuts up*

Cherish your moments of madness!!!!!! (I need to go easy on the exclamation marks >.>

Ah! Gorgeous and delicate. I adore the wings, and the whispy colours.

You draw feet really well... And the bird is so cute!

The picture is so busy, and yet looks so still. Very clever! The only things that look alittle out of shape are the cogs <-- I didn't want to say that, but you wanted advanced, so that'll have to be more than my general sheer joys of gawping at the loveliness of your artwork.

Thank you very much! ^___^ Yes, the cogs are woonky! X'D I was feeling incredibly lazy by the time I was done sketching this (plus all artists were being called inside) sooooooooo.... I decided to go all blah and just made woonky cogs! X'DDD I was hoping they'd.... magically look perfect!

*silly silly excuse*

Aw~ you're allowed to draw wonky cogs if you like! I don't mind your excuses, I'm impressed enough that you have them, instead of being "Yeh well I'll draw wonky cogs if I want to, neeeh!~" I love the picture regardless of their wonkyness anyway!

you know....

So few artists on here actually inspire emotion. I mean I can look at something and go "wow! that looks awesome!" but it is mostly with your work where I can say "this makes me feel something, this is something special".

You really have a talent, and I hope you continue your work with art. Not only do you have a great skill, but you put emotion into your work, I look at this and feel a mystery, a sadness and yet something almost like a child-like glee. Amazing again, keep it up <33

Yakra In reply to AkiraKitano [2008-02-04 10:33:15 +0000 UTC]

Wow... thank you! I never imagined anyone would find it that amazing or anything. @_@ Especially since it had seemed a failure to me (well... you know how something is not looking as quite striking as you imagined it).

But whee...! I'm so glad her sadness and and her happiness are both apparent to you. And it actually conveys the feelings to you (which actually makes me feel that perhaps I actually didn't mess up as badly as I thought I did... X'D).
