How to make dark toons and picture in 20 easy stepsThis explains how to make dark toons only using MS Paint, of course i use photoshop, but not all have this, so.. Everybody have Paint, don't they?
Making these toons is very simple, if you will follow this tutorial you will be able to make them easily, but.. Please read the warning and mistakes before commenting that it's not working, also.. YOUR MMD HAS TO BE NEW ENOUGH TO HAVE SELF SHADOW. Or it won't work
It won't work on every model, like LAT for example, it doesn't really use any toons for face, which is the main thing in dark pictures i make, so..
Feel free to experiment and try out models, poses, lightning, other pictures for dark toons. HAVE FUN!

I have a question:
I wanted lines to appear on a model's skin, so I went to the appropriate toon and edited horizontal lines in. Then I opened the aforementioned model in pmd editor and replaced the toon with the edited one. There was no change. Is there something I did wrong?

if you want lines on skin, you will need to uv map the skin for that: [link]

You can change the toon in MMD without copy of the real toons.

Yes you can, but sometimes it doesn't work properly, and.. People will get confused time to time =w='

Now I'm finally not lazy to try it! I'm pretty sure no one on MMD knows about this so I'm ganna post a video on YouTube with a model that has been "tooned" and not tell them how to get it that way! XD Messing with internet noobs is fun!

you do it in a different way...
I'll do everything via PMDE... I only change one Toon and change all the toons (toon 10.bmp to toondark, toondark2, ect.) in the color scheme to that toon, and save it as another model.
Good thing is, you can change the toon with one click. bad thing is, it can be seen as editing...

I did it like this at first, but it took a lot of time and i can make more pictures now when i set them to default toons

Because now i just have to change the toons in data folder, as you can see i have folders named ~new toons, dark toons~ there, so.. It's fast for me

Also, change the edge line thickness (in MMD) to 0 to maximize the effect of the Model. try it, it works great!
