Daufinat / Dauphine

An independent state in the Middle Ages, then province of France, now split into three departments:
Isere,
Drome,
Hautes-Alpes.

During WWII it was a center of the valiant resistance against the Nazis and the Vichy regime.
In 1981, when the socialist government failed to deliver on the promises of limited autonomy and divided Dauphine into two hybrid
regions fueling the growth of regionalist sentiment and demands for the resurrection of an autonomous Dauphine within its historical borders.

Those demands were articulated in the 1990s by the Ligue Dauphinois and combined with the strong anti-immigrant undertone.
More recently, it is continued by the group called "Maquisards - les resistants identitaires du Dauphine" which supports a native
of Grenoble, Arnaud Gouillon in the incoming French presidential elections.

Guillon promises to restore wide autonomy to all regions of France. In any case, the "nationalist" movements are marginal there.
