Description
You took a seat on a random park bench, a paperback book in hand. The bench faced the blacktop where most of the kids played basketball after school. Unfortunately, you weren’t too great at sports, so you didn’t have a lot of guy friends. However, glancing over at them while reading was something you didn’t mind. Some of their conversations were pretty hilarious, along with the fights that followed uncalled fouls.

Carefully, you crossed your legs and opened your book, ready to enter a world of fantasy and wonder - while keeping an eye out for attractive guys, of course.

Eridan carried an orange basketball at his side, striding towards the steaming blacktop court. Sollux was beside him, though he wasn’t as cool and collected about the whole ordeal. “I can’t believe you’ve dragged me out here to play bathketball, fishdick,” He grumbled, “I could be at home, coding away - but no.”

“Oh deal with it, Sol,” Eridan muttered, making sure not to mess up his impressively mastered walk.

The two stepped on the pavement and faced one another. Eridan began dribbling, his mouth forming a smirk. “You ready to go?”

“No,” Sollux replied. He stood there, arms crossed, not planning on moving anytime soon.

Eridan rolled his eyes. “God Sol, you’re such a buzzkill.” He then looked around, scoping the park for any possible watchers. Suddenly, he eyed a [h/c] aris, her eyes invested deep in a book. His eyes lingered, unable to tear away.

Sollux noticed this and looked in the direction he was staring. “Damn…” He whispered, rubbing his eyes, deciding if this was real.

“See?” Eridan said with a smile, “If we play, that little lady over there will see how toned I am and wanna go out with me on the spot.”

Obviously Sollux didn’t believe him, but ignoring his own thoughts, he nodded. Even if the computer nerd wasn’t as active as most, he could certainly dunk a few baskets, and maybe even impress a pretty girl.

As you read further into your book, you heard the bouncing of what appeared to be a basketball. You tilted your head up to see two boys playing a round, it seemed. One of them was winning hard. Your eyes went wide when he dunked a basket, and acted as if it wasn’t a big deal. His bi-colored glasses caught the glare of the sun, but you swore he turned his head to look at you. The other boy looked pretty pissed, stamping his foot and yelling some pretty obscene things at the first.

Unable to take your eyes off of the first boy, you examined him further. He shot a half-court basket, a blank expression on his face. He then spoke a few words to the second, and boy, did it set him off even more. Finally, the first boy shoved the basketball into the second boy’s arms and began walking away. Well, walk away from the other.

He seemed to be walking towards you.

Quickly, you drew your eyes back down to your book, afraid he might’ve seen you staring. Wouldn’t that be great, some boy who was probably older and more influential than you would go tell all his friends how much of a weirdo you were. If you ever had any chance of having a boyfriend, or any friend of the male nature, they had just vanished into nothing.

Sollux could barely hear Eridan shouting from the blacktop. He was too concentrated on the girl sitting alone on the bench. He could’ve sworn he saw her looking up at him, [e/c] filled with surprise while he was shooting baskets. Instead of looking happy like she had before, it looked almost as if she were forcing herself to look down at the book.

He stopped walking, casting a shadow over her. “Hey.”

Slowly, her head tilted up to look at him. Her face was bright red. “Um… h-hello.”

“I’m Thollux,” He said, though he felt embarrassed by his lisp. “I couldn’t help but notice you all alone over her. What’re you reading?” He sat down next to her, almost feeling her heartbeat as he leaned in to hear.

She took a deep breath. “Oh, just Pride and Prejudice. Probably not something you would be interested in.”

“I’m thure if you were telling me I would be,” He replied, smiling sincerely, “after you tell me your name, at least.”

“I… I’m [Name],” She whispered, “I-I guess I could tell you, if you want.”
