PERSONALITYIsaac was raised in a well off, loving household. He is passionate, fun loving, and intelligent, but also spoiled rotten. He was praised excessively as a child, and it developed into an inflated ego. He lives by an 'I'm awesome!' mentality and therefore handles criticism and insults with ease (by brushing them off). He tends to be rather frank, and it can come off as rude. As he has thick skin, he sometimes forgets that others are not always the same. He gets frustrated when things don't go his way, but he moves on quickly to other ideas or reassesses the situation in a more positive way. An idealist and highly adaptable, he rarely throws tantrums.

He wants to be independent, but as he's been sheltered, there is a lot he doesn't know. He has a tendency to ask lots of questions, even really stupid ones, though he'll either reword them to sound less stupid or ask subtly. He can recite the periodic table, but doesn't know that fast moving gray clouds in the morning means afternoon rain. However, he does learn quickly.

He tries to present himself to others as (what he believes to be) cool. He craves compliments and the spotlight, and flaunts his talents shamelessly. To give him some credit, he'll also laud anyone who he deems worthy of his respect- he loves to brag about the people he loves too. He is fiercely loyal to the point where he will overlook one's misdeeds to protect them. While he rarely cares for criticism, he accepts it readily from those he respects. He tends to show his appreciation through material means, and can be a spendthrift.

Isaac has a hero complex, and is drawn to people who he believes he can 'save'. There is nothing more satisfying to him than being told he is important or necessary, and he looks for that sort of recognition by zealously helping such people in any way he can. He has a tendency to linger on regrets, but does his best to look to the future.
HISTORYIsaac was the product of a long, ongoing affair; his father married another woman for business, but fell in love with his mother after the fact. Due to his position and the possibility of scandals, he never visited, but she sent him photos, and he helped shoulder their financial burdens. Though Isaac wondered why he did not have a father, he was his mother's little prince, and lived a happy life. Unfortunately, his mother was involved in an accident when he was eight, and passed away. He was to be left at an orphanage, but his half brother, Soren, decided to adopt him. Though they were brothers by blood, they had a significant age gap (15 years) and Soren became more of a father to him.

For an eight year old, it was difficult to accept that he'd have to live with a stranger (he was told they were brothers, but he was skeptical) in a strange house and never see his mother again. Slowly, they grew used to each other, but it was at this time that Isaac became plagued by vivid nightmares, his new brother at the center of them. He was afraid that his brother might also disappear, and grew very upset whenever they were apart, which happened frequently as Soren was quite busy.

To help circumvent these fears, his brother bought him a lot of things to do (money was the only thing they had no shortage of)- toys, books, films, and other forms of entertainment a child might enjoy. He fell in love with the stories of heroes, brave warriors who traveled the lands, won the trust and respect of the people, and protected those important to them. For a birthday, Soren gave him a red scarf (the closest thing to a cape that was still practical).

For my little hero. Your happiness is my safeguard.

Isaac truly believed those words. He needed to be strong. After that, the nightmares became less frequent and less scary.

Though he was busy and traveled frequently, Soren always looked out for Isaac. He didn't want the child who'd already suffered so much to go through anymore pain, but it turned into excessive coddling. He made sure whatever schools Isaac went to accommodated him, and because of his social status, no one dared cross him. Isaac was always welcomed and 'loved' wherever he went, praised for everything he did. He was told to ignore the people who didn't act agreeably and move on; they simply didn't understand what a good person he was. That isn't to say it was entirely undeserved- he had top marks and was a sociable and friendly person. His constant flaunting and the way he threw money around did get on many people's many nerves, but they were either too afraid to tell him or were ignored when they did. He graduated a year early, intending to attend med school which his brother supported.

A year after he started school, Soren told him that he was engaged. This came at a surprise, since Isaac had never heard his fiancee's name brought up before. It was then that the older man explained exactly what their connection was- why they were brothers who didn't look alike, and what their father did (and did not do). Soren was now also involved in an arranged marriage, but he promised that he would not go down the same path as their father, who he looked upon with disdain for his cowardice. Still, Isaac didn't take it well. Soren had always been so strong, why would he accept this? He was simply told that the matter was complex. However, Soren was fine with it.

"Nevertheless, you are not held to the same restrictions. I would like you to live your life freely, and do the things that you want to do."

He was frustrated. It wasn't fair... Isaac felt betrayed by his father who abandoned him, and helpless because he could not 'save' his brother, even though he'd been given so much. He wasn't a hero at all... It became difficult to focus on his studies, and he took time off from school to rest at home. However, his relationship with Soren's fiancée was so strained that he often heard the two of them arguing about him when they thought he'd gone to bed. He couldn't help Soren, so at the very least, he didn't want to be another problem. He started looking for a place to go, mainly for the purpose of getting out of the way. He needed time to clear his mind, to think about what he wanted to do... Putting a positive spin on it, he decided that this was like the start of any adventurer’s quest! He had to find himself! And become a hero! Or something!

In the midst of 'searching for a place to soul search', he found a few people crowding around a flyer to Toffee Town, discussing how unconvincing it was. A faraway town in the middle of nowhere, free housing, guaranteed job... definitely a scam. However, perhaps due to how ridiculous it sounded, he was completely sold.

On the other hand, Soren was completely against it, and it took Isaac nearly sneaking out of the house and a couple of phone calls with the mayor of the small town before he eventually unwillingly relented. He couldn't understand the reasoning, but he could see that this was something Isaac wanted to do. He made the other promise to keep in touch...or else. (He also made a similar threat to the mayor.) At least something like delivering the mail seemed fairly simple and safe for his inexperienced brother.

"You can always come home," Soren reminded Isaac as he got on the train, "if it's bad, which it probably will be."

"I know," Isaac replied.

But he was looking forward to his first adventure!

- Goes by his mother's surname, his father's and Soren's is Liu.
- Because of his brother's background, a lot of his casual clothes are of the Eastern sort.
- Soren sends him money and other gifts regularly- Isaac gets at least one large care package every season. This is where most of his wardrobe comes from.
- He's always wearing his scarf (ties it around his waist in the hotter seasons), because he's a great hero, but also for another reason... He can get quite panicked if he's away from it for too long.
- Attended a lot of random lessons during his childhood, including art, fencing, swimming, and piano. He plays well.
- He has a vivid imagination and comes up with a lot of unrealistic scenarios in his head. They rarely actually happen.
- A gourmet. While he'll eat most dishes, he'll let you know if it's bad. He is stupidly picky about table etiquette. He'll even eat a BLT with a fork and a knife.
- He can cook, but he prefers to eat other people's cooking. He's fond of Faust's cooking and often stays for dinner as he visits every evening to drop off the mail. He takes the leftovers home to eat later.
- He eats lunch most often at the teahouse, followed by the eatery, and the bistro. He'd eat at the bakery too, but Faust always has sweets (from the bakery) in his fridge for some reason, so he just eats them there.
- He's been studying plants to impress Jun. He struggles to tell them apart, so he doodles notes in his journal to remember.
- He's used to the upperclass city life, so he may complain about things that other people think are normal (ie. no designated snow shoveller in the winter? Madness!).
- Brains > brawn. Even when angered, he won't get physically violent. He thinks it's something for "savages". He's too refined for that!
- Gets along well with Tim, who is also kind of his boss. In the beginning, Tim helped him get acquainted with living in town (you could say Soren requested it...). He apparently reminds Tim of someone, but the mayor hasn't told him who...
ROLEPLAY AVAILABILITYEST. I work full-time (and frequently overtime) 10AM - 7PM so I might die on you.
HCs are nice, but sometimes it's hard for me to really get anywhere with them... I prefer rp style HC or lit rp.
