Whatever combination of markers, paint, and ink this is, it all blends together seamlessly. It almost looks like it was done digitally.

Reminds me vaguely of Kyoht's work... lovely new style. Very creative!

Probably cause there is a coyote in it. People see Coyote in a native american setting and immediately think "Kyoht", even though the styles are completely different. Utah has a way of getting people to make southwest art though. Something about the intense red rocks here. Since I'm living in the same town as her now for a while, I see exactly where she draws her inspiration.
As for the inking/drawing style, I've had this style for years, but never tried it on Wood, and didn't use it on paper much (since my sensual work always sold much better).

I hear you on the whole 'didn't use my nifty style cause sensual sells better' thing.
I didn't know you lived in the same town as her! What a lucky town :3 And I know your styles are totally different, I was referring to the subject matter. It's interesting to see similar concepts pulled off successfully in totally different styles, don't you think?

Oh, very cool! Lookin' awsome, Xian! Great use of the media. It's nice to see artists who use the base of their works as part of the work. Sometimes the paper/board/canvas/etc of the piece is completely forgotten in the work. :>

Very very cool. Things like this are always so impressive in person and make such a strong impression at a convention! Hope to see it there :3
May I ask what kind of markers you use on the wood? Also what kind of wood are you using and whats the thickness? I totally picture this on like really thick Redwood haha. Like 2 to 3 inches thick ya know?
Anyway, cool style and cool idea here. I look forward to more! :3

XianJaguar In reply to Ikameka [2006-05-15 08:53:44 +0000 UTC]
I use Prismacolor markers, + Paint pens. The wood is pressed synthetic, I believe, and it's roughly 3/4" thick with decrative grooves cut into it. I should have mentioned the dimensions.. these are actually very small pieces! Only about 7" tall by about 5" wide or so. But the effect is so cool. This one was at Califur.. if you had wandered into the art show, you may have seen it. (Although, if you didn't get to the art show, you missed it)
