Bramble is a scarred old wolf who survived a horrible fire that devastated his home. He and his granddaughter, Heather, were the only ones who survived. Despite this, the two of them lived happily...that is, until they are captured by the Skull King's forces and made to work as slaves. Bramble tried to fight them off, but the wolves were dishonorable and took Heather hostage as a means to get him to surrender. Now, Bramble keeps a close vigil on Heather, but he begins to realize that he alone is not enough to protect her...until he meets Rigel.
