For the first submission/contest in Mystical Lair!!! (Yes, I know! I'm killing my stock rules since this isn't a STOCK Photo! Please don't hate me for it *hides*)-I might del this afterwards and put it on my other account...we'll just have to see- This is just a preview of what's to come for my story, if you'd like to read the whole thing then you may download the document to your desktop ^-^ I wrote this a long time ago, so excuse my horrible grammar errors etc. I sincerly hope this story would apply for what was asked for the contest..*Grimace* Note: As mentioned before, there is more to read if you'd want to d/l the document

The Main character's name is Sapphire...(Just because I couldn't think of any other name at that time)

***Prologue***

Princess Sapphire sat on her windowsill looking out at the dark ebony sky. Worrisome looks were scattered through-out her elegantly pale face. She was a beautiful child; a princess, a precious gem in her Kingdom. She inherited her mother’s gorgeous looks and her father’s courageous heart. She was named Sapphire, because of her remarkable eyes; they were beautiful; large, pure, and they were the colour of shiny sapphires. Those eyes were her most precious treasures. Sapphire’s cheeks turned rosy pink as the wind from her opened windows caressed her face, her silky black hair with a tint of auburn and copper blew back as the wind grew more furious. What happened to the beautiful treasures of this Kingdom? Sapphire thought to herself, all the lush grass and the sparking sun, all that happiness…what happened to it? I remember a time when this Kingdom was filled with glory and pride, everything was flourishing, the air smelt crisp, the sun shone bright, everything and everyone was filled with love and happiness…but now…all I can feel is pain and sadness. Who and what brought all this pain to this Kingdom?
Just as she was about to enter her train of thought, and isolate herself into her thoughts she heard a knock on her door. ‘Yes? You may come in…’ Sapphire said; a timid maid walked into her room. She was plump and short, but she was very pretty.
‘Princess…the King wishes to speak to you…’ she said in a soft voice,
‘oh…I see, alright Mina, I’ll go see him right now,’ with that thought in mind, Sapphire strolled down the halls to see her Father.
Sapphire walked down the long mysterious corridors until she met a large golden door with a dragon by the right side, she knocked on it and said, ‘Your majesty, I heard you wished to speak with me…’
‘Yes Sapphire, you may come in.’
Sapphire walked into her Father’s room. It was enormous; the walls were made of pure gold, with sparkly diamonds on the side. There in the middle of the room hung a huge chandelier, the floor was made of white marbles; with a red carpet leading to the throne. Sapphire walked up to her father’s throne and bowed.
‘Also,’ her father continued ‘you do not have to call me in such a manner, no one else is here, and, father will do nicely.’
‘Yes father…’ Sapphire replied as her father raised her head up to kiss the top of her forehead. King Diamond was very handsome; he was only 13 years of age when he took the throne to rule the Seriyuu Kingdom; he had been ruling this Kingdom for 17 years now. King Diamond had striking looks; misty silver hair, a tall nose, a hard mouth which hesitates to smile a lot, and amazing eyes. He was very tall, 6’2 and he had a very strong build. Warrior’s blood ran through his veins, he was no coward—that was why he was meant to be king.
‘Sapphire, you are 15 now. In our Kingdom you are old enough to rule…you understand that right?’ Sapphire nodded, ‘well, you don’t have to worry about that for now…I will rule for at least another good 10 years…but you should know…that our Kingdom is going to war…’ King Diamond stopped for a while as he looked at Sapphire’s shocked face. ‘You cannot tell me you didn’t feel something going wrong in the past few weeks…’ Sapphire looked into her father’s eyes and spoke quietly,
‘yes…I did feel something wrong but I don’t know what it was…it felt like the balance of our realm was tipped in a way…it feels likes…the darkness of our world is stronger then the light…’ ‘But…that shouldn’t be possible…since our realm was divided into four regions. There are four kingdoms in our realm…we lived in harmony. We ruled Seriyuu, the azure Dragon kingdom, King Aki ruled the Suzaku-crimson Phoenix Kingdom, Queen Mina ruled Byakko, the white tiger Kingdom…and I’m not sure who rules the Genbu kingdom…’
King Diamond smiled, ‘you sure know our history Sapphire…but, that is not why I called you here today. We can review history some other time; I called you here today is because there are some very important decisions I’ve made concerning you and I think you should have the right to know…’ Sapphire looked at her father in a questionable way. His cherry expression turned solemn, his smile grimaced. Sapphire knew something was wrong, but she decided to keep her mouth shut and listen to what her father had to say.
‘As you already know, every kingdom whether it’s the Seriyuu Kingdom, the Suzaku…or whatever…there is a powerful Miko, priestess, protecting it. Her soul is pure, henceforth keeping the balance of good and evil. Well, the soul of the Miko of the Genbu Kingdom was somehow corrupted by evil. The seven warriors who were supposed to protect the Miko also turned evil. The Kingdom of Genbu is now in ruins, everyone including the queen has gone, I suppose in your language, crazy. They are on a raid and a rampage. Everyone from that Kingdom seems to be controlled by something, and they are headed to us now. So…there will be a war. A lot of people will die.’
‘Father…’ Sapphire started, ‘you’re telling me this because you want me to fight right?’ Sapphire had a hopeful look in her eyes, ‘you want me to go and kill those raiders right? I’ll fight father!’ almost jumping off the floor at the opportunity now, Sapphire had a big grin on her face. But, when she looked down at her father her smile faded into sadness.
‘You don’t want me to fight…’ Sapphire said in a slow realization of what was to come, ‘you want me to stay behind castle walls like what a woman should do…is that it?’ King Diamond gave Sapphire an apologetic look,
‘no…that’s not it Sapphire. You’re the heir to this Kingdom’s throne. You are the last of our sacred blood…you’re the only one who will be able to call fourth the Dragon—and protect our kingdom from utter destruction.’
‘Yes father! That’s right! So I should be able to fight!’
‘No…you won’t have that power until you reach the full age of 16…but I’m afraid something might happen to you in the next year, so I want you to go to the moral realm and live there. For one year until you are fully able to call fourth Seriyuu…’ Sapphire opened her mouth to protest, but her father hushed her before any words came out of her mouth, ‘also you will need to obtain three crystals…fire, water, and earth…only then will you be able to have a power strong enough to get rid of this darkness…’
‘but the mortal realm father! That is not fair! I won’t be able to fully change into a dragon then! I’m not even old enough to change into a dragon now! I only have my wings! How can you send me to a realm where people can only stay in one form?’
‘Sapphir—‘
‘you also said I had to complete a task, if I go to the mortal realm now I would never be able to complete this task!’
‘Sapphire…’ her father started to say slowly, ‘let me finish…’ ‘The crystals will only show up in the mortal realm, also you must obtain it before the next blue moon…which is the moon at the start of your 16th birthday…you have…one year to complete this task…’
‘But…I don’t want to go father, I want to stay here and fight with you…’
‘don’t you understand Sapphire? Our Kingdom is depending on you to finish this task…you are the one that will save us all…’ Sapphire gave out a deep sigh…and asked,
‘when do I leave? I want to say good-bye to Takashi…’
‘You…will leave in 3 days, but first you have to consult with the oracle, she will give you some clues to find the hidden crystals with…’
‘Alright father…’ Sapphire said gravely. Sapphire started to walk to the door just then her father said,
‘Oh, and Sapphire…?’
she turned around and saw him with his arms wide open, she ran to him to embrace him,
‘I’m going to miss you father…’ Sapphire whispered,
‘I’m going to miss you to Sapphire…I love you…’
