Grats on the DD it is worth it, the story behind this picture is wonderful and truly helps us understand why he has such an expression on his face.

Well... He sat there because the baptism ended ^^ But he saw me just one time, in the big moment. After that, I took this pic and he never knew about me...

And honestly, I've been feeling the same frustration of limitations with digital camera lately. So much so that I'm actually going back to film. But, very nice image.

Which limitations? I may give you a hand on that.

It's not anything that can be helped. Colours and textures. Film gives much better results and quality.

Sure. millions of millions of millions of silver halides cannot be beaten by thousand of millions of pixels. There are a lot more of possibilities in those terms, but our eyes narrow that amount a lot, even below than what digital imaging can do. However, you can achieve the same tone curve in digital, but like in the darkroom, you need hours of work, and a lot of experience too in order to shape the histogram, the same as you would do with film. Of course, I'm not talking about sharpness, film has advantage there, because the amount of halides. That's particularly noticeable, specially in the foreground if focusing in some infinite.

There's also the emulsion layers and how the lenses you use for film behave. With all the cameras and lenses I've used, I could not get same results with digital that I get with film(see kodachrome and infrared films)But also some film lenses I've used are far better than digital lenses I've experienced. There's a huge diff with the texture and look.
In a darkroom, if you're experienced enough, you don't spend that much time on it. I met a photographer who doesn't even use a light meter for his camera that he built.

This is a stunning photo!
I am so glad you put the little story in the info as it adds more character to the image, you can almost hear him sighing in frustration.
I love the editing too on this. It is reminiscent of an old black and white photo but we know it was taken on a modern DSLR which creates this beautiful feeling of timelessness.

Well... a teacher I had told me, in year 2005 that the camera I just bought (a Canon 300D) was crap compared to film. I spent a lot of money to buy that camera, but besides that, how it comes it's crap? So I passed 7 years developing black and white, specially, the metallic look, -which I love-, and toning the curve, in order to distribute tones uniformly, like film does it. Also, expanding all the camera's capabilities. So, challenge accepted and this is one of the results

First of all congrats on the DD. It is well deserved.
I really love this one for its immense emotional intensity and the play with light and shadow. Furthermore the format and the fading into black up to the top is awesome!
