Description inspired by.. the many people who mindlessly walk past our leaflet stand, and mainly my parents.
The message being: I DON'T NEED YOUR BULLSHIT.

So, I'm not who they want me to be.
I don't drive a car, or have a job, like every other 18 year old on their gap year.
I don't wear those pointy shoes, frilly dresses and look all pretty.
That's not actually important to me.

When I go out, they have a go at me for being out.
When I stay in, they have a go at me for staying in.
What the hell?!

Yet all the time I am not sitting around, I am DOING something. Something for the children in africa, something for the animals we mutilate. Apparently though, I should be getting a job. So I can earn money. Just, earn money. 9 to 5. Earn money. That's it.

Spending all my time on charities is "bad", everything I do is "wrong", because I don't get paid for it.
"Everyone else" has this that and the other, they drive cars and wear make-up and have jobs. Well get this, "everyone else" don't give a SHIT about anything and I DO! And in case my parents hadn't noticed already.... I am NOT everyone else.

I make no apologies for not meeting the stereotype. I've got better things to be doing.
And if they think I'm going to be pushed through the school > uni > work till ya die system, they don't know me very well.

You are one of the most dedicated, friendly and generally brilliant individuals I've ever met (if talking to someone online counts as meeting them). Take no shit!

Great piece of artwork, by the way

The same thing happens to me.
Be yourself!

I'm certainly going to do so, despite the fact that my parents will disown me, but maybe thats their problem -- 90% of their own friends come down onto my side anyway!

From my experience not being yourselfs is not a good thing! One time I tried to conform and be like the others
I was very unhappy.

Yeah I totally agree, if you suppress who you really are you'll only get depressed. And also you're true self might just "sping" out in a burst of madness

YAAAY! I'm totally behind you, and I know how you feel, I've been in your shoes, so many times - although I'm very lucky to have parents who are understanding.
It can be a tough slog when you're one who gives a shit, and does something about it. But know this: there are people like me who will rally to support your passion and determination, and it's very very much appreciated.
I'll be keeping an eye on you

Looks great; really interesting drawing and the subject too is something the minority can relate too.

I've just been enraged by listening to radio 2 hearing about the 'poor helpless guini pig farmers who were attacked by the evil vegetarian terrorists' I guess you've heard about the whole thing?

Yea. What a bullshit and soulless system it is. They're the ones who should apologize for THEIR sorry-ass and wasted lives without any semblence of meaning, not YOU! They're ones that are fucked up in the head.

Mindless fucking people, ants, I hate the fucking people-ants who just keep going and going on with their bullshit lives.!

No. That's cool. I'm seeking out everyone in the activists circles and seeking to make closer connections, cause I think we're starting to drift apart and that can't happen while there's people are out there plotting our destruction.

It seems your parents believe that the more money you make the better off you are, which of course is stupid, but in their eyes that's true.
They are misguided, but they love ya and want you to have what they see is the best, even if you don't want what they do.
Well, you gotta stick with what you believe, screw what people think.
Sad thing about society is that most people have this 9-5 materialistic mantra, and they look down on people who want to change things for the better until they get on the television or whatever. You just gotta ignore 'em, in the end look at what you're doing to change the world, and look notice that they aren't doing ANYTHING.
If people like you didn't exist we would most likey still think the world is flat, so don't sweat it yo.

Very good, love it, i know that feeling, i would rather not have a job, but i want to go to new zealand and thats the only reason i got mine, but i agree, i've decided to start making some of my own clothes, and only buy special ones, eg, surfer ones and special occasions coz i hate "the fashion" which everyone has to wear or weasr last years "fashion" its annoying

So i am going to say screw fashion i can wear what i want.... whether anyone else likes it or not!

x-vegan-x In reply to Lillyringlet [2005-08-23 21:19:01 +0000 UTC]

wow, making your own clothes - impressive! sweatshop free. I wish there was an actual alternative to slave labour clothing, apart from charity shops, which I can't really get to very easily.

Go you, do what you want.. new zealand, wow the place with the cool birds..!

"I am NOT everyone else."

think you could shout that at my mother too?

the wonders of family - damned if you do damned if you don't - and to be honest it's primarily the vegans i meet that have it - "you;re not going to that protest, you're not living under my roof whilst......., that's not a proper job......, blah blah yada yada two pence worth schlurp"

fuck em - fuck em right in the ear!

x-vegan-x In reply to Veganvictim [2005-08-23 21:17:20 +0000 UTC]

LOL, will do

I can see their concern, but they're getting ridiculous. For too long now I've tried to explain. I've given them the option to watch videos, or go and look at a factory farm. I've even offered to give up EVERYTHING to do with AR if they'll come to a factory farm and think it's ok. They've refused because they know I'm right. So they have a go at me for fighting against something they wholly have no idea about. My parents have also had the delight of a PC Plod-twat-face coming to scare them senseless, then the long stream of media hysteria, enhanced by the Daily Mail's facist articles. Talking to them is like talking to the Daily Mail nowadays.. they just spew out what they're told to think LOL

Omgg that reminds me... NEWCHURCH IS CLOSING!!!! Hurrah!!!

haha, and the papers are loving it this morning - hysterical - although I'm pleased to see some quotation marks around the word 'terrorist' now (daily mail)- perhaps they can't really compare us to bus bombers anymore. How insulting for the relatives of people who got blown up to compare bunny huggers to suicide bombers!!

whats this about being nervous? LOL he prolly closed cos he heard I might come to the demo heehee

I heard the police started on a 13 year old girl and no-one helped, so Greg ended up gettin arrested! Bloody asshole police .. almost wish I'd been there now!

Did you see anyone wearing the t-shirt I helped to design?! It has the skull I drew for the sXe wallpaper a while ago (with an added eyepatch)! yippee

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Veganvictim In reply to x-vegan-x [2005-09-07 08:50:21 +0000 UTC]

I've been whoring myself about a bit and no paid requests have come up - i'm hitting the animal rights scene at the moment - i;ve bee resting on my laurels too much - i've put feelers out to all the organisations looking fro work - there's two vacancies i've applied for that look ideal

i also asked around for any other work - i got really really angry the other day and decided not to fuck about anymore

x-vegan-x In reply to Veganvictim [2005-09-07 17:17:35 +0000 UTC]

LOL, cool!

ohh you've been applying for AR jobs? Is that after the Jill dvd you watched? That e-mail you sent out was really refreshing, nice to see some passion from someone! Are you going to move away from your area or just go for local jobs?

Veganvictim In reply to x-vegan-x [2005-09-07 17:20:03 +0000 UTC]

x-vegan-x In reply to Veganvictim [2005-09-07 17:24:57 +0000 UTC]

ahh London - I go there a lot. It smells! The AR groups I meet there are cool, not sure about the actual London Animal Action tho - their bank account got nabbed by the police a while ago, I wonder if they still exist hehe!

anyhoo, I digress ...... shame our group doesn't pay wages, we'd steal you!
