Description Well. asked me to help her with the anatomy of her critters' faces a couple weeks back and I finally got something done to show her. This one is based loosely off of her Vizrix.

The Hexitrix Audusen are vulpine creatures who develop a bone plate over their faces during adolescence.

From my understanding the HexitrixΒ Audusen are a CLOSED species, visit Zarinthya's gallery for more info on these critters.

I wish I had done a tad bit more research on the species before I completed this, the face is overall to square/masculine and the nostrils are placed entirely wrong. XD But this was just a quick spur-of-the-moment piece and it seems to have turned out okay.

I really like this! Especially how dulled out the colors are, and, I know you said the anatomy's wrong, but from where I'm standing it's totally believable.

Thanks!

Definitely believable, just not quiteΒ accurate to the species I was portraying.

And as far as colors go this is just a picture I took of my sketchbook then I edited the lines a bit and tweaked the values to shade. The colors are just the way my camera captured the light of my bedroom.

I think I'll stick with this style for concept art for a while, and learn to put textures over it too. Not hard, I think I know how already, I just haven't gotten around to actually doing it. XD

A really easy way to slap textures on something is to put the texture on a new layer, change it to overlay (sometimes multiply works better but usually overlay), and change the opacity to where you want it.

Ah ha! Yep, that's how I thought it was done. I was right! Well, I knew about multiply but not overlay. Yay!

XD No the hard part will be fitting more complex masks....like Eon's...good lord its going to take forever. >3 But I will prevail!

That's for sure. One of the reasons I got this done so late is my firstΒ attempt was to draw Era. I made a mistake picking her. Nope. Couldn't get it right. Making a more generic and simple mask was the best way to keep myself from obsessing over tiny details. XD

PFFFFT well I like how you drew it. Fox like creatures are kinda hard. They're really dainty.

But I seriously think you did a good job. It's nice to see creatures from the front view, rather than profile view.

Great work.Β

Yeah, you don't see creatures from head-on as often as profile or 3/4ths because symmetry is hard.

I cheated completely here and just drew 1/2 the face and mirrored it, for the sake of simplicity. I can take HOURS trying to get something symmetrical. XD

And that's why the nostril is too high up on this critter's face! 'Cause I was lazy.

And thanks!

Yeah that's true. LOLOL well w/e saves your time, I understand!!

I think it's also trying to understand how you want it to look head on.

Profile views can only say so much as to how the frontal view will look.

Cuz sometimes I notice I draw the eyes improperly in the profile view,

and then I am like OMG SHI for the frontal view... idk maybe I am thinking

way too much. I do that a lot LMAO.

I still really like the shading and strokes you do, it's so pretty.

Can't wait to see more art from you!! :3

That's for sure. The only reason I can draw things head-on as well as I can are the dozens of hours I've put into studying skulls. (Mostly feline skulls.)

And thanks for the compliment! It's exactly the kind of pick-me up that keeps me drawing.

That's a really good idea. Skulls are so amazing.
I need to start doing that to understand creatures better too!
Feline skeletons in general are insane. Dat backbone omg.

Daw you're very welcome.

Feline skeletons are rad. I plan to have my cat's skeleton cleaned to use as reference when she passes. XD
