That is the prettiest little freaky underwater creature; it looks like it would be something any normal person would run or swim away from, while I'd probably sit there for a minute saying "pretty". lol
The coloring on this is absolutely beautiful, and the design is spectacularly original. Congrats on the DD!

I wish they would pick it up again. As someone who's studied salamanders, I hoped it would have encouraged people to be interested in their conservation. And Pixar seems to be incapable of making a bad movie.

I have only watched E.T once, when I was 5 and the only thing I remember from it was that they dressed him up in a dress and wig?
There's no inspiration from E.T I can assure you, it's probably from the great grenadier part (they are grey and has big, black eyes) and then the humanoid mix in it.
