"The Order of the Cog issues it's new initiates a simple tag used to identify them in case of accident.

Due to the unusual nature of their exploratory and experimental activities beyond the edges of the Golden Empire, this happens quite often, and the Order re-issues the often battered tag to the next initiate to reduce expenses.

This tag and bracelet were found on a remote world several parsecs beyond the Empire's exploratory boundary by an advance scouting team. All metal on this world showed signs of the same damage, and the scouting team that returned these items noted evidence of some sort of alchemical reaction near the remains of a ship bearing the symbol of the Cog.
A number of immobile and lifeless metallic beetles and larvae were found, but no records or survivors survived to explain the dramatic events that must have occurred on this world.

As a precaution, the Order has imposed a quarantine on the world in question. Any items retrieved from the world must be carefully screened by the Order of the Cog before being sold or distributed. "
