Secret bases were always fun in Pokemon, if they ever remake RSE I'm sure the look and feel of bases would be even better.

Does it function similar to like a secret base in that it is a hidden cave area? Almost like a cave version of a hidden hollow?

That is a secret base. That is not s base in the screen. If that makes sense. The crack represents a hidden hallow of some sort. Some are just a room to make a base, others are cave systems that lead somewhere. This particular screen series is leading to a big spoiler

So it's just another form of a cave entrance.

More or less. These locations usually do not lead to anywhere you need to go, and will often be hidden from the player who is not willing to adventure to find the locations.
A good example is a secret base. It is an opening in a cliff or tree that leads nowhere. This is really no different, but it may lead you into the mountain deeper if it is not a secret base.
