There are so many things in the show that make me curious! What I've currently been pondering is why the Dark Ace is serving Master Cyclonis, given that she's much younger.From what I recall, the original Storm Hawks died saving the world from the cyclonians...and the Dark Ace was responsible for their downfall. Perhaps Master Cyclonis has some relation with the original ruler, and the Dark Ace continued his servitude?

According to what was apparently an FAQ with the creator, the reason Cyclonis came into power was due to a "tragic incident" concerning whoever her father was.

Seriously, this artwork is incredible. There is a dutiful feeling to it all and yet just below that surface is such a bitter sweet aura, that it's hard to see them as the bad guys for a few moments.

From what i know the original ruler was her grandmother and the title was passed onto her

I think it's because when he betrayed Lightning Strike, he was given the name Dark Ace by the original Cyclonis. Then he was also given the responsibility of looking after Cyclonis at the younger age. When she became ruler, he stayed with Cyclonia and thus her.

I love this picture. I think this:
DA was a wingman for the original Storm Hawks going by his real name, Tanner.(*wees laughing*) and thought his future be with Cyclonia, (argh, I'm a Pirate!) so, here's Tanner list of chores; Kill leader, steal skimmer, join Cyclonia, tidy bedroom. The current ruler, (thought to be either Cyclonis' mother or father,) welcomes him in, and he moves up ranks fast as he's is skilled in flying and fighting. Old ruler passes on, daughter takes over, DA continues service.
I think it's quite logical and is probably what it turns out to be. Love the art, keep on going!

Dark ace was a wingman, not a Sky Night. Also, before Cyclonis, the ruler was her dad, found it out on Wikipedea.

I can't think of words to describe the coolness of this picture and the concept behind it. The mood it sets is so awesome and perfect, like an old story with a fallen royal house, a lone child-survivor and the one person who vows loyalty to him/her, to get back the throne and serve and protect with his life. I'm a very big fan of this theory.

You're right about her being related to the original ruler. She became ruler after something 'unfortunate' happened to her father, and because she came from a long line of rulers, Ace was probably bound to serve her.

My own take on the subject? I agree with the theories that Master Cyclonis is either the original's daughter, or an orphan girl he decided to take in and raise as his successor. As for the possession theory...well, it WOULD explain that spooky undertone in her voice when she issues particularly threatening statements. Mayhap the original Master Cyclonis lives on, in some form or another, through his daughter...
As for the Dark Ace...I think it's very likely that he was in service to the original Master, and follows the current one out of a double dose of loyalty--both to the memory of the original Master Cyclonis, and as a promise he made to serve the daughter as he had the father. Perhaps he served as her bodyguard before her ascension, and continues to carry out that service in addition to his role as the Master's trusted right hand.
Regarding his origins...well...I always envisioned him as a tough scrapper who was taken in at a young age by the first Master Cyclonis who saw a gleam of potential in him (thus explaining his loyalty), but the prospect of him being a fallen Sky Knight DOES have merit.
In any event, there's definitely a bond between Master Cyclonis and the Dark Ace, one that goes beyond the typical villainy of evil-empress-and-right-hand. Romantic? Given the age difference, I kinda doubt it. But there's still a deep bond, as he goes out of his way to keep her safe, and she seems to have more tolerance regarding him than she does the rest of her empire.

Actually between the awesome of this pic and the general drought of FF.Netβs SH section, I seem to have committed my brain to building a whole M.Cyclonis/DarkAce/Cyclonia private headcanon.

I really hope we find out more about the Dark Ace and Cyclonis soon. Actually...the only character we have any background information on is Junko from that one episode. Maybe we'll find out more soon. So many theories @___@

It kind of makes you wonder why everyone is the way they are. I think Master Cyclonis is possesed or something. At the end of the 2nd episode she had the weird 'I am possesed' voice thing going on.
Master Cyclonis does seem young, but not as young as Aerrow. He did say she was young but anyone under 20 seems a little young to be ruling a working empire. The Dark Ace, I think, is somewhere in his twenties.

That's really great work ... I love the atmosphere and your take on an earlier time for both of them. The colors are great too. I love that you can't quite see both of their faces, but yet we all know it's them. Very artistically done.
Frankly, I thought Cyclonis was around 17 and the Dark Ace was more like 23. But it's possible that she is the same age as Aerrow. I can't imagine the Dark Ace being too young. He's a man.
I have been making up fanfiction about why the Dark Ace serves Cyclonis. It IS really interesting because he's got real intelligence, he's powerful in his own right, and is only hampered by a healthy dose of over-confidence (not to mention that he's surrounded by idiot Talons).
I hope there's some really great back story to him. I love what the creators did with his eyes. He looks like he was meant to be more than just your basic villian.

Thanks for the comment! I always imagined Cyclonis being close to the age of Aerrow, because he thought she was sort of young (for a ruthless power-mad ruler, that is) when he first met her. I'm excited to see any back-story in general for the show. =3

I thought Cyclonis was the older of the two, as for dark ace I think that we was a sky knight, but something happened and he fell form grace and that how he met Cyclonis. But any way nice pic.

How old is Cyclonis and Dark Ace? She looks like she's in her late teens on the show, and so does Dark Ace...but if he defeated the original Storm Hawks...does that make him really, REALLY old? Has he been granted eternal youth or something? My guess on age for Master Cyclonis is 16 to 18 and for Dark Ace late 20's. Mabey early 30's, but thats a big mabey!

Me, I estimate that Cyclonis is probably the same age as the Storm Hawks, which is about 14.
Dark Ace I'm guessing is probably around 18 to 20. I'll put my money on at least 20.

One does wonder on the Dark Ace's real origins. Because, frankly, his real name is definitly not "The Dark Ace." All the good musings on him have already apeared in earlier comments, though. Poo.
Whatever the situation is, the Dark Ace is one sexy evil man.

Actually, I lied. I do have one theory on Ace that I don't think has been mentioned yet. One does detect a small amount of romantic tension between the two (or maybe thata's just my mad fangirl side), but maybe the Dark Ace was her bodyguard or some sort of childhood companion (he doesn't seem too many years older than her) and so when Cyclonis inherited the empire, he went along with her. They do seem to be rather close.

It seems like everyones pairing those two, which does make a bit of sense, but the DA has got to be at least twice as old as her. I mean, if he was running around with Aerrow's dad, and now Aerrow and Cyclonis are about the same age, the Ace has got to have about 15 years up on Cyclonis, at least.
Of course, maybe he's just a pedophile.

Dark Ace is her Father.
Dark Ace is Brother, Uncle, etc.
She forced him into it.
SHE IS RICH! (He wants $ and she hired him)
Just two unlikely friends?
He thinks shes going to take over the world, and then joins her. (Like Carver)
He's just plain BAD!
She inherited Cyclonia (along with its army and him)
He just got up one day and said "I think I'll join Cyclonia"
And it just goes on and on, but it will be easier to shorten these theories down to one as the show goes on.
Remember, it is a fairly new show and we haven't seen much in the way of history of the characters (other than a little of Junko).

Y'know, Sometimes I wonder...if he was once a Sky Knight before he became the Dark Ace.
I have a theory that he was one of the original Storm Hawks and he betrayed the squadron, turning turncoat and joining with Cyclonis. That would help explain why he is know for singlehandedly bringing down the original Storm Hawks.
As for Master Cyclonis, I'll probably bet one of two things. Either she is the Daughter of the previous ruler...or she is possessed by the original ruler. Heck, she's got the creepy voice change thing going on. ^_^
Maybe Cyclonis offered Dark Ace the chance to be the greatest most powerful pilot "Ace" or something in all of Atmos if he joined her. He does pride his flying and fighting abilities overall, and she does have an eye for skill.
