Description This drawing is a bit of cathartic venting for me. After reading the news about rhino poaching this year I was fantasizing about what would happen if poachers ran into the Rhino character from Marvel comics.

I'm quite into animal conservation, and 2011 was a real bummer for wild rhinos. The rate of rhino poaching was about 35X higher last year than four years ago, and 54 have already been killed this year. Not to mention that the Javan rhino was declared extinct in Vietnam (poachers got the last one).

I have nothing but loathing for people that buy rhino horn or poach rhinos. Why? Consuming rhino horn is basically the same thing as eating your fingernails! Urgh...

Ironic given this character actually killed a rhino in a Black Panther comic. Still good though.

I don't want to EAT rhino horn, I want to WEAR rhino horn. Looks like Spider-Man could give a fuck about poachers. My favorite thing about the Rhino has always been his name, Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich. It's so long, so...Russian!

haha. Yeah. If you ever need a big thuggish character, just make him Russian.

Real nice piece, and thanks for the info about rhino poaching. Truly awful stuff.

Thank you!

Yeah, if only there were a way of more directly reaching people that actually buy the horn.

But would they care? God, I hope so.

Thanks Victor! It was really fun to draw. There were times where I considered adding quite a lot of gore too (lots of splashing)... but I figured that would be too far.

I understand that, but it's also because that adds a movement. Like watching kungfu films and the fights choreographers add that talcum powder dust that pops out of people when they hit one another adds more of an impact then just a normal hit.

haha. Maybe I can just do a fine pinkish mist rising out of the fist crater.

Great artwork against killing and hurting rhinos!
I can't understand people who would buy stuff made of those horns. With their money they support this madness. Just let 'em live!

Oh, it's not that they are making stuff with the horns as much anymore. Now it's pretty much just shaved down and used in traditional medicines by the growing Asian middle class. It's a bit of a status symbol too.

I read about one guy that was talking about injecting cyanide into the horns of rhinos, which wouldn't hurt the rhino, but would make the person who consumed the horn REALLY sick. I LIKE that plan! haha.

yeah man, extinction is a total bummer, but it's a way of life. It's just a shame that we, as a species that should understand it's rammifications, do so little about it.

On topic though, COOL PIECE! Rhino is an underappreciated Marvel power house

Yeah. I could understand if Rhinos were going extinct because lions evolved special rhino claws, or something natural. Extinction just isn't a way of life when it's so some old Chinese guy can get a boner.

You know, I was never a huge fan of Rhino when I was growing up (I was luke warm to most Spider-man villains), but since then a lot of those villains have really grown on me (Except for Mysterio... I will never like Mysterio).
