Oh band jokes. My director once told us the only reason one of us should miss rehearsal was ifone f us was hit by a car, and one day an alto sax (my section) actually WAS hit by one. When he asked why the alto was gone, we told him and his reaction was this. "Well that's still no excuse!"
We were all torn about whether to crack a joke or simply marval at the few things that actually would make a good excuse....

depending on the section and velocity of the tempo, it may be fatal to stop XD

i'm in drumline (in the middle of the basses) it would be VERY bad to stop

ha ha, I was a mello player, and for part of our show two years ago we had an oblique pass through GOING BACKWARDS between percussion....stopping would result in utter catastrophe o.o

wolvensong In reply to AngelsShadow96 [2011-04-10 21:01:08 +0000 UTC]
yeah, no they didn't. The move involved the brass back marching at a 45 degree angle (while still facing front) and the percussion moving forward in a straight line passing through us. There was one time the percussion section began moving a bit too soon after the hold, my entire section got snares in the ass XD

yup, but the motto of our drumline "if you hit them, they must have been wrong" XD most of the time it's true, they work their tails off!

our motto is more along the lines of 'if you hit them...good for you! run there @$$'s over!!!!'

lol, one of the trupmets (Reiley) was part of this little group that always seems to be loud and generally leading band junk. it was made up of him, a tuba player, some other low brass, percission section leader, and my older brother

trumpet x) him and his friend were kind of sort of ledgends with band crap. they graduated last year (and, ironically enough, my brother's friends has a sister, also in band, who i met and now WE'RE best friends and in all of the same class, just like our brothers)

ah ha ha! That's kinda what happened in our band too. My boyfriend and I met through band (both in the mello section). My brother and his brother both joined a year or so after we did, and now their best pals since my class graduated XD

lol, I was talking more sibling reigns than legendary trouble makers XD My brother and his friends started a tradition with the low reeds to dress in outlandish snow gear the first time of the year our band director says "dress for the weather" It happens every year, the last year with the band one of them wore a neon orange jumpsuit, my brother in snowboarding gear, the whole section wore snowboarding goggles. It was a balmy 55 degrees and sunny X'D

guh! I know that feeling, it's like "who do I dress to now?!" For a show once we had 3 people sick and they were all in an arc right next to each other, so me and another mello had to make it look like we were supposed to be stranded in the middle of nowhere XD

We've had a similar problem, but our band member didn't die, she broke her ankle. So we had to fix the BIG gap.
