Out of all your amazing work, this one had got to be my favorite.
Maybe it is because the Strider brothers are by far my favorite kids [ Terezi and Karkat at my favorite trolls. ],
or maybe it is because Regina has always been my favorite musical artist;
But no matter who you draw, what song you draw,
it usually ends up with me on my knees with how much emotion is in each one of these.
And I must say, you are one of the most amazing artists out there, and one of the few, who could honestly make my cry over something like this.

I saw the video to this first, and only found the link to this through the "Gamzee - Plastic Soul" video.

Just came back to this, still can't handle how perfect this song is for Dave. Even the tone of it, really - alternately solemn and passionate.
It seems to almost perfectly follow Dave's sort of crisis of faith (?) over his Bro. Just generally how he starts out completely hero worshiping his brother and trying to be just like him, and then he starts to feel uncomfortable with the puppets, and then Bro breaks his sword and the record on his shirt and kicks his ass, and basically cements that Dave still isn't good enough. So if he can't be like Bro, if he can't live up to the Strider name, then who is he? Certainly not anyone who deserves to be called a hero. So his "favorite song," the song he's always been singing along to without even thinking about it, is his Bro's. But now he's forgetting the words, he's losing the beat, he's falling behind - he's been trying all his life to be like his Bro and he's tried so hard that he doesn't think he'll ever be good enough. It hasn't occurred to him that if he's forgotten the old song, the logical progression would be to write a new one, one that's all his own.
Best lines - "You spent half of your life / trying to fall behind" - I really like the trying part here, because Dave is so convinced of his own inferiority that he'll go to the point of trying to take the suicide mission from Rose, he's so stubbornly convinced that he'll never be as good to anyone alive as he would be as a sacrifice. And then, of course, "Because it's his turn, but his brother won't let him try" - of course Bro fully believed that Dave could become a hero, but rather it's Dave's mental image of Bro as an impossible ideal that's holding him back, stopping him from taking his turn as the hero he truly is.
So yeah is Regina Spektor a secret Homestuck or what is what I'm asking, because damn this song is so perfect it's almost suspicious
And of course your songset demonstrates all this in a really awesome way but I mean we ALL know that, way to state the obvious

Okay, I apologize for letting this stay in my inbox for so long, because such a well-thought-out comment absolutely deserves a response, but goshdarnit if I didn't just want to cling to this and smile like a goon because you get it. You are... the first person I've heard articulate the message like this, and it is exactly what I was aiming for, and to see that you understand it just... makes me so happy. So happy. To me, Bro was the song he always sang along with, the one he tried to fall behind, to fall in-step with and imitate because of that hero-worship you mentioned, and how he suddenly felt so strongly that he couldn't do it when Bro was gone. He uses his musical influence and the same admiration to drown out the doubts he has about the puppetry and Bro's stranger tendencies... Aah, I could go on. I probably shouldn't.
Other people have asked the same question! Haha, I don't think she wrote anything about Homestuck, but there are some splendid situational coincidences. Maybe Hussie wrote Homestuck to fit her songs! No one has mentioned this possibility yet...

It's so evocative, and your composition is always really impressive. You get to the heart of the characters and story in your fanart, in a way that shows really great understanding and love of the source. And your song choices are always spot on!
