You know how I said that I'm returning to do some more BIS art? Turns out it isn't a far-fetched claim, but I can't go with daily updates. So, here's another BIS scene, from season 5, chapter 3.
What we have to see here is Aleu sitting all by herself near the edge of the cliff and approached by her packmate, Kenai. This takes place no longer after Aleu succeeded Nava as an alpha of his pack and her leadership is... not all that good.
As it seems, her half-breed status is put in question. Not only a part of her pack defected, driven by hunger, but other packmates question if she should be an alpha of their packs, considering the fact she's not a purebred wolf.
After some wolves debated what to do, Kenai brought it up that she has to remain their alpha, but under the guide of a pure wolf in their pack. As others were reluctant to make themselves as Aleu's guides, in fear of other wolf packs assuming they have affairs with half-breed alpha wolf, Kenai went beyond those obstacles.
What merely happens here is Kenai talking this through to Aleu and offering himself to be her co-alpha wolf. While he isn't an alpha male nor he's in a relationship with her (as some would put it - he'd disgrace a wolf pack by being in a relationship with half-breed), he shares a leadership with her.
So this is a rather strange arrangement of alphas. Aleu is de facto alpha wolf, being in charge of her clan, but Kenai is de iure alpha wolf, being in charge of decisions and strategies.
It may not seem like there's anything happening between them and even she sees it that way. However, he sees this chance as to get closer to her. Unlike some other packmates, who believe he's doing this to usurp her place, he's motivated by his heart.
Besides, in original BIS they looked like they already knew one another and didn't make enough place to build their relationship. In rebooted BIS, that's changed and I shall continue developing their relationship throughout seasons 5 and beyond.
