Actually no...a gryphon, even the ancient ones, were often mixes of various other things besides just lion and eagle; some of them had the hind-parts of a dog, and others had a serpent's tail, or a camel's tail. They've been depicted with both horse/wild ass ears and floppy spaniel ears. Sometimes they had a goat's beard under their beaks, or a mane covering their necks, or lacked wings, or had spikes instead of wings. The beak has been shown as both sharp and soft, often with teeth or tusks. They've been depicted with two horns or a decorative knob on their heads. And then there are all the gryphon relatives, such as hippogryphs, opinici, keythongs, simurghs and more, all of which look very close to gryphons, but are mixes of creatures other than simply lion and eagle. So no one can definitively say what exactly a gryphon (or dragon, or any other mythical beast) is or isn't, because their appearance has changed from culture to culture and from time period to time period, and are still changing today.

Can you show me this lore. Oh wait. No your mixing up hypogryphs and griffins. They are not the same.

If you read my comment, I said "gryphon relatives, which look very close to gryphons", which hippogryphs do. There's also the Hieracosphinx (forgot to include them). There is lots of scholarly gryphon lore out there, for those who want to study it: gryphonpages.com/bibliography/ (My highest recommendation would be Joe Nigg's "Book of Gryphons", which I used to own, and sadly lost during a move: www.amazon.com/gp/product/0918… .)

I love hidden pictures! It took me awhile, but I found: pan pipes, a pan (as in ‘fawn’), a pair of pants, pansies, Pandora’s box, a panel, a panda, a frying pan, and pancakes. I found the panther last of all. I had to read the comments to understand ‘swanpan’ and ‘pan’ bread though. Is there anything else I missed? I’m sure I see something in the right branch of the left tree. Did you hide something in the knotholes or tree bark? Also, there seems to be a flying bat above the flowers that are next to the pancakes. Great picture! I had fun looking for all the hidden things.
