Description Say it sincerely... say it with blood. I love you.

I have been yearning to work in this medium ever since I saw a different artist here on DevART use butcher's blood to create some simple but intriguing "watercolor" images of some rabbits. The opportunity to try it myself jumped out at me today after I wounded my finger.

And no, I did not wound myself on purpose. Never have and I never plan to. I was out doing yardwork and accidentally crunched my right forefinger inbetween the handle of the pick-ax and the dead tree stump I was trying to remove. Oddly enough, my finger didn't hurt when it happened and still doesn't hurt (though it tickled rather badly every time I'd dip into it to recoat my paintbrush). I'm going to go clean up now...

It does turn brown because of the oxygen in the air but I have heard that spraying a blood painting with hairspray helps slow/prevent the oxidization process.

Wow, it looks so beautiful. And it takes on extra meaning with that media. If i can ask, why do you like working in blood? I don't look down on it or anything, just curious.

It is simply the fact that it is blood that inspires me to want to paint with it. It carries its own sort of "energy" and meaning when painted with. It also has a rich, lovely texture that I really enjoy working with.

This was such a small picture, I didn't need very much blood for it. By the time it had naturally clotted, I was done painting. It worked out perfectly.

The blood for the larger pictures was provided by my friend Kyle who kept reopening the cut so I had more 'paint' available.

It oxidizes, but takes some time. I scanned it before it had enough time to do so.
