Description
Another toothy trivia. This time, how does a Weddell seal uses its teeth? Well, with their sharp teeth, Weddell seals are carnivores, preying on fish, squid, and krill. However, Weddell seals grind their teeth on holes in the ice to keep them open to their comings and goings between water and air. This grinding wears down their teeth, and by 20 years, the Weddell seal may have no visible teeth and, unable to hunt or maintain its breathing hole, may eventually die.
