Ellie pranced nervously outside the dressage arena. Since she arrived, she hadn't been able to stand still; fidgeting around, biting, pawing. It was her first big show and she was only four. Charlotte tried to warm her up extra that morning and hoped she'd be fine by her class. The mare tossed her head violently and her feet pawed and tore at the ground below her. as the judge rang the little bell, Charlotte cued her forward, and as she crossed the gate, she asked for a canter. Almost immediately the filly calmed. This was the only place that wasn't crowded and now the claustrophobic mare could finally breathe. When Charlotte asked for a halt, Ellie did so, very politely. Charlotte took a deep breath, gave a salute, and knew then that this would be a great ride.
