Charlotte peered into the stall, looking at her young stallion. It was his first major competition and he didn't look even a little uneasy. She had full confidence that he could win this, it was his rider she was unsure about. Vera had come to Moonlight Drive only 5 months before looking for a job. She had done many Jumper shows in the past but like Danny, she had never done anything this big. Charlotte turned around and leaned against the cold bars lining the stall and glanced at Vera who was getting her helmet on.

"You up to this?" she asked.

"Yea, yea, I'm fine, don't worry," Vera said with a dismissive motion of her hand, "Danny can do this in his sleep, you've seen him jump at home. And besides, he's not even nervous! Look at him, he's sleeping. We'll do fine," she gave Charlotte a reassuring smile then finished putting on her gloves.

Marc led the giant stallion out of his stall and gave him a quick once over. He tightened the girth and swung the reins over Danny's muscular neck. The bay was now alert with ears flicking in all directions, his large head moving slightly to look around. His nostrils flared as he took in the strange smells of the unfamiliar stables. Marc gave Vera a leg up and held tightly onto the reins until he was sure she was secure.

"Don't worry, Char, they'll be fine," Marc said smiling down at Charlotte's worried face.

"I know, I know," She said, still unconvinced. They all stopped talking when they heard the booming voice of the announcer, calling out Danny and Vera's names. Vera quickly spurred the horse into a brisk walk that no one could keep up with without breaking into a run. As they neared the entrance to the ring, Charlotte and Marc were forced to leave Vera and head for the spectators' stands.

Charlotte watched intently as the two entered the arena, trotting aimlessly around until a loud ringing noise was sounded. The stallion immediately broke into a quick hand-gallop, and thundered towards the first oxer. He cleared it by a foot and landed lightly, picking up speed with every stride, reaching a full gallop as they turned for the wall. The horse's powerful neck arched up, his ears perked forward, his hooves eating the ground hungrily, making him faster and faster. Without breaking stride, the bay sprang up effortlessly and cleared the wall with ease. Vera patted Danny's neck and the pair smiled as they left to wait for their next turn.
