It's that time again - get ready for some obsessive Dexter's Lab facts! I recently got the 2nd volume of Dexter's Lab classic comics (thanks to the lovely Misora-Roll ) and noticed that Mandark wears a different outfit in many of the comics, a short sleeved shirt, tie, and brown shorts. This was around the same time that Ego Trip came out and the similarities to his Executive suit make me wonder if this was a design that was going to be used in the movie or that was otherwise floating around among the Dexter artists. Anyway, my headcanon is that this is what Mandark wears by day in the ET world and he wears his fancy supervillain costume at night. And after all, any excuse to draw Mandark is a good one!

In the first episodes he was really funny, later on they played that stupid laughtrack like every two seconds and it gets on my NERVES! But I love him just the same lol.

tbh the short sleeves look WAY better. long sleeve shirts and shorts are super hard to pull off, whereas short sleeve shirt + tie = an outfit i personally find adorable.

YESSSSSS! I still need to pick up those volumes, but I was really nervous to buy them online because they seemed so cheap for a compilation? I just wasn't sure if it was the real, legit deal! So cute though, ugh, and the idea of Exe Mandark still running around in a cape is fantastic, Dee Dee is probably rolling her eyes in the background.

perhaps it was inspired by ego trip? or something akin to that.
Best guess is they just varied it up for fun while keeping it pretty similar. Mandark was always a suit kind of guy.
tbh it kinda makes me think he's getting up to wearing the suit as executive, maybe in high school changing the style up to still look professional but gets more and more towards the executive wear.

Maybe? The first comic where he wore that outfit was Momdark which came out literally the day after Ego Trip (ET on December 31, 1999, and the comic on January 1, 2000!).

Unless the comic artists had some idea of ego trip and executive designs.
Honestly I think they just switched up his outfit a little bit to be similar but different for some fun. that's happened in a few DL comics before also I believe(outside of costume changes being important to the plot).

Also I prefer the short-sleeved-shirt/brown shorts/tie outfit over the original tbh

You know, I think I like that outfit better too, it looks more balanced to have the shirt sleeves on his long noodle arms.
