Etching and chine colle

18" x 12"

One of my first etchings. My first studio woes of what happens when other students get soft ground on the hard ground rollers and it mixes onto my plate. I had to scrape and burnish most of the plate after the soft/hard ground flaked off in large chunks on my second round of etching leaving most of the image open bit. It was a true adventure.

There are three art historical references. Can you find them all? One should be very obvious!

Wow this is a lovely etching--very impressive--puts my classmates to shame haha (they are highschoolers though XD) I dont have much to say--the obvious thing is that the foot looks rather off...Also the other foot thats in the water should be making a splash since its moving (I presume because of the swing) I sort of wonder why there is so much slack on the swing--is her weight on her foot in the water? I find that a bit strange...you could work on anatomy bit--the legs are very skinny (this could be style) and very unnatural positions (perfect 90 degrees?) The torso also seems a bit strange and long. Hands could use some work too but I know that its hard and its an etching so no going back :/ I was really harsh--I had to look at it a long time to find things--Also I love the background and trees and the fwish of the water e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

I think the foulbite gives it some nice atmosphere

Thank you- I think so too. It made me want to start all of my etchings with some kind of unintentional plate tone that I would have to battle against. Thank you for adding this to your favorites!

This is beautiful! I can't imagine it being any cleaner, I think the unintentional bites add even more visual interest.

Thank you! I agree about the unintentional bites. One of the reasons I like printmaking so much is all the challenges and things that "go wrong" force you to work around them or overcome them to make a stronger piece. A sheet of arches just doesn't put up the same kind of fight
