Aria hurried for her favorite spot on the castle grounds, eager for a little time to escape into her book. She didn't have too long before she needed to get back to work. Myles wouldn't mind her being late, but that didn't matter.

A small hedge maze sat in the gardens. She liked to sit on the wall just outside of it. If someone she wanted to avoid came along, she could duck just into the maze. No one would ever suspect her of being in it, not with her awful sense of direction.

Of course...one of the very people she wanted to avoid was already sitting in her spot, as if waiting for her. Merric was filthy, something she didn't usually see. He was polishing the hilt of his sword, but he hadn't even gone in to wash up after training.

Aria clenched her jaw, intent on pretending he wasn't even there. After what he said last time they spoke...he didn't deserve to be noticed. She plopped onto the wall, crossing her ankles, and very purposefully turned away, her nose in the air as she opened her book.

They'd been sitting in unfriendly silence for almost ten minutes when she caught a bit of movement out of the corner of her eye. She glanced over, ready to tell the redhead to bugger off, when her deep blue eyes landed on a Violet Star Flower and her look slid into one of complete surprise.

"Sorry." was the boy's only word. His tone was gruff, but the faint bit of pink on his cheeks hinted that he was less angry about having to do this and more embarrassed.

It was also the nicest thing he'd ever done for her. He knew how much she'd longed to see one of these flowers for herself. "Apology accepted." she said softly, reaching over to take the bloom. He didn't let go, turning to catch her eyes with his own icy blue.

"I mean it." he said. Aria's lips twitched upwards a fraction.

"I know you do."

Oh Merric I love you

So after doing Merric for that big group piece, I HAD to draw him the way he is in my head. Very like a male version of Merida really...at least with hair and eyes, though his hair isn't quite as curly.

But yeah, i like this piece. Dramatic shading, expression besides plain smiles...movement even though their sitting still...I think I did pretty darn good! Lots of little details you probably won't even notice, like the badly sewn tear in Merric's sleeve

And yeah...this may have come from a story I was writing. I haven't worked on it in quite a while, but I do have one
