It's not as hard as you might think. If I can do it how hard can it be? Hair falls in locks. So on something like this especially, put in some of the main locks all twisty and turny, and then just fill in between them. Put in a few fly aways and let the eye complete it.

The more I learn the easier things are becoming.
For now I stick to straight hair and my doodle book for practising.
But I am slowly geting there.

How did you do the white (the highlights in the hair)? From my experience in silverpoint, I couldn't get lines like that.

White gouache, zinc probably. On a toned paper the paper becomes a mid tone and you work out lighter and darker from there. Gouache works good for fine lines, a white chalk of some kind is better for larger areas.

I bow to your better judgment. There is something that is bothering me though. I'm beginning to think I just don't care for the color of the paper.

Detriya In reply to whichwaysup [2007-05-10 22:19:36 +0000 UTC]

well, the color helps the silver lines stand out... but it can make the image look just a little sunburned, if you know what I mean.
